<strong>Program</strong> <strong>Description</strong>:<br />
The <strong>Harford</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Public</strong> School’s (HCPS) Elementary Summer School <strong>Program</strong> is provided to students in grades Kindergarten through Four. Its<br />
purpose is to assist students in reviewing and maintaining the reading and math skills and strategies that were taught throughout the year. The curriculum aligns<br />
with the Maryland State curriculum as well as the curriculum taught throughout the year.<br />

Middle School Summer School<br />

<strong>Program</strong> <strong>Description</strong><br />
The <strong>Harford</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> (HCPS) Middle School Summer <strong>Program</strong> engages incoming sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students in reading and<br />
mathematics instruction on a daily basis using the Summer Success curriculum. Key elements of the Summer Success: Math and Reading programs include blending a variety of<br />
activities to assist students with reading and mathematics. In addition, HCPS provides supplemental instructional activities to enhance the Summer Success: Math and<br />
Reading curricula while providing optimal opportunities for maximum student engagement.<br />

The <strong>Harford</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> (HCPS) Bridge Plan for Academic Validation <strong>Program</strong> provides high school students with expanded access to curricula aligned to<br />
the Maryland State Curriculum through the delivery of High School Assessment remediation and application on Bridge Plan for Academic Validation project(s).<br />
Students will sit for the appropriate HSA exam(s) at the end of the summer program. Teachers will be hired to teach Algebra I/Data Analysis, English 10, and Biology<br />
in a traditional face-to-face setting that will include HSA remediation and Bridge Plan for Academic Validation.<br />

The Extended School Year <strong>Program</strong> (ESY) provides<br />
special education and related services to students in<br />
grades K-4 to prevent the loss of skills during school<br />
breaks. Elementary ESY services are provided in<br />
collaboration with Elementary Summer School. Staff<br />
will implement ESY IEPS and support students<br />
attending summer school.<br />
The Secondary Extended School Year <strong>Program</strong> (ESY)<br />
provides special education and related services to<br />
students in grades 5-12 in a special education setting<br />
to prevent the loss of skills during school breaks.<br />
Staff will implement ESY IEPS in a special education<br />
setting.<br />
Special Educators provide special instruction and<br />
implement ESY IEPS for 3 and 4 year old students in a<br />
self-contained setting. Students attend 2(Tuesday,<br />
Thursday) or 3(Monday, Wednesday, or Friday) days<br />
per week in session 1 (8:30-10:30) or session 2<br />
(11:30-1:30). Class size ranges from 6-12.<br />
Special Educators provide special instruction and<br />
implement ESY IEPS for students in grades K-4.<br />
These students attend a regional program for<br />
students with autistic characteristics.<br />
Special Educators provide special instruction to<br />
students as outlined on the ESY IEP. John Archer is a<br />
special education school for students ages 3-21.<br />
Most of the students receive services while attending<br />
Camp I Can.<br />
Teams of a special educator and speech therapist will<br />
screen and evaluate 3 and 4 year old children<br />

<strong>Harford</strong> <strong>County</strong> Infants and Toddlers <strong>Program</strong><br />
Summer Services Information Sheet<br />
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION<br />
The <strong>Harford</strong> <strong>County</strong> Infants and Toddlers <strong>Program</strong> (HCITP) is an early intervention program for children birth to 4 years of age and their families.<br />
Through family-centered services, parents and caregivers are provided guidance and coaching to help their child be successful at home and in the<br />
community and develop school readiness skills.<br />
PROGRAM SCHEDULE<br />
The HCITP is a 12 month service; summer services will be provided during the period of June (immediately following the last duty day for teachers) to<br />
August 21, 2013.<br />
PROGRAM LOCATION<br />
Services are provided in the “natural environment” which can include locations such as home, day care, preschool, camp, and/or other community<br />
settings. Applicants must have a reliable means of transportation.<br />
Applicants hired to provide summer services for the HCITP will have the ability to work full or part-time; days and hours will be worked out<br />
directly with the program supervisor.<br />
