We all play a role in preventing life changing injuries.
We can role model safe behaviors. We can also
invite patients and families to share their story in
whatever way they feel comfortable, with the press,
in the classroom, at the capitol. When we make
trauma real to people, we can make real change.
The battle to upgrade the Minnesotaʼs car seat law
began the year Brynn was born. After much lobbying,
many phone calls and countless letters from many
advocates and agencies, in the end, a little sevenyear-old
sitting before legislators and a passionate
mother, testifying with tears in her eyes, convinced
lawmakers to pass the Minnesota Car Seat Law.

The post health care reform medical model will
require many more primary care providers than are
currently in the field, or even in the pipeline. This
conference will also address the implications of this
shortage and pose some questions and challenges
for discussion.
Hennepin County Medical Center has been at the
forefront of medical change for the last 100 years.
We intend to continue to lead the medical community
in Minnesota through teaching, research and
excellent medical care.

Conference, October 20-22

The 2011 Best of Hennepin Conference will focus on
the relationships between primary care physicians,
specialists and patients, especially those with chronic
diseases. As we go forward into this time of radical
change and reform in health care, the patient is
replacing the disease as the focus of the medical
equation. Our conference panels will provide an
opportunity for attendees to witness Patient Centered
Care through the interplay between specialists,
primary care physicians and patients in planning and
resolving chronic health concerns–to hear their
stories and understand their flashes of insight from
all perspectives. Conference speakers will also
address the effectiveness of traditional medical
