Act One/Scene One
The first setting is in a room on the second story of a landed house in a residential
district. A large window faces the road and is open. The curtains are flying in the wind.
All around the room there are posters of rock stars, super stars and bands on the walls.
Clothes and books are strewn around, it is generally messy. A screw driver and pliers is
lying on the floor.
Miller is bending over and packing his bag. He constantly steals stares at the clock,
11.00pm. He is dressed in black, wearing a leather jacket with chains and has a Mohawk
as his hairdo.
He grabs an electric guitar lying on the floor and climbs onto the window, preparing to
jump out.
Suddenly, there is a soft knocking on the door. Miller stops in his tracks and stays still for
a second or two. He quickly picks up the screwdriver and pliers before dashing for the
bed. He covers himself with his blanket.

Susan: (gentle and caringly) Miller, everything ok in there? I heard some sounds from
your bedroom.
Susan opens the door slightly
Miller lags for a while.
Miller: Er… yeah mum, I just knocked over my clock.
Susan: Ok then, go back to sleep honey.
Susan closes the door, turns back and exits the stage.
Miller slowly climbs out of bed, creeps to the door and presses his ears against it. After
listening for a few seconds, he grabs his bag and guitar before jumping out of the
window. Lights darken.
Act Two/ Scene One
The setting is at a local pub. Flashing lights and cigarette smoke fill the air. Men and
women are hanging around, drinking, smoking and chatting at the background. Miller
enters the scene.
He looks around as if searching for someone. He knocks into a big, muscular man who
grunts at him, pushes Miller away and walks out. Miller stops and tidies his clothing.
Garcia: (Joyfully) Hey Miller! Over here!!!
Garcia is tall and imposing, he is bald, with a tattoo on his scalp and is rather big built.
Garcia stands up from his seat and waves both arms.
Miller turns to look, waves back and walks to the seats.
Jeff and Scott are both seating too.
Jeff is small built and bespectacled, he is the only one with a normal looking hairdo.
Scott is weak and sickly, constantly looks restless and has plaited hair.
Garcia: Take a seat man.
Garcia gestures Miller to seat.
Scott: What took you? I’m down with flu and I got to go home to get my medicine, you
just wasted half an hour of my life.
Miller: They say time heals everything (Not Ready to Make Nice)? (Gives a laugh)

Jeff: Anyway, now that you’re here, let’s get rocking.
Miller stand up and taps a man on the back.
Miller: We’re ready to perform Mike.
Mike is a middle-aged man, has a grey goatee and dressed flamboyantly.
Mike: Better be a good one tonight, I vacated this time slot especially for you. There are
tons of others wanting to perform to. But I see that you got some potential son.
Miller, Garcia, Jeff and Scott walk to the stage and setup their equipment.
Miller taps the mike.
Miller: (Slightly nervous) Er…. Hi folks. Tonight we are going to bring you a song,
Brothers On A Hotel Bed.
To Miller’s surprise the crowd is quite enthusiastic and gives him a warm round of
applause.
Miller now filled with more confidence signals Garcia to start the drum beat.
The song plays, they sing, it ends.
Crowd gives another round of support, whistles and cheers.
Miller, Garcia, Jeff and Scott walk to the front of the stage and bows to the audience,
another round of applause and cheering goes off. Lights Darken.
Act Two/ Scene Two
Miller, Garcia, Jeff and Scott are off stage with mike.
Mike: (Happily) Great job guys (Puts his arm around them and ushers them towards a
corner of the pub).
Mike: But, today’s your last night performing.
Garcia: Why Mike? (Shocked)
Miller: Yeah, wasn’t our performance good enough? You can’t do this to us; we really
want to perform… (Rather sad)
Mike: I probably wouldn’t if I could (Not Ready to Make Nice), but it’s not up to me to
decide anymore. I just sold this place away to that man over there. (Points to a man
dressed in shirt and tie enjoying a drink). I’m sorry guys (pats them on the back) I really
can’t help it.

Jeff: You’ve got financial problems? If you really need help I can introduce you to a
finance company.
Mike: Thanks kid, I appreciate that.
Mike exits the pub.
Miller turns to look at the man who bought the pub. He stares for a moment and walks
towards him.
Jeff: Hey, hey, Miller take it easy. (Pulls Miller’s arm)
Miller: Relax, I’m just gonna have a chat with him.
Jeff is still holding on to Miller’s arm.
Scott: Let him go.
Jeff let’s go off Miller’s arm.
Miller walks to the man’s seat and takes a seat.
Miller: Hi, um, I’m Miller.
Man: (Not Surprised) I know that, I’m Syrus.
Syrus passes Miller his name card.
Syrus: I’ve been watching you guys performing this few weeks, I’ve got to say I’m quite
impressed.
Miller is still reading the name card.
Miller: You’re a record producer aye?
Syrus nods his head.
Miller: (hesitant) Well, um. What are you gonna do with this place since you’ve bought it?
Syrus: Well, I will probably give this place a makeover, but it will stay as a pub I guess.
Miller: (Suggestive) Well then, any chance that my band and I could you know, play
again?
Syrus: No.
Miller: (Stunned) Huh? Why?
Syrus: (calm, takes a sip of drink) Well, I’ve got other plans for you.
Miller: (Puzzled) Wait, wait. Wadda you mean?

Syrus: (Patiently) Many famous and successful stars don’t just appear out of nowhere.
Miller listens on.
Syrus: They have to have the talent; then again, they must be spotted.
Miller: (skeptical) Are you saying I’ve got talent?
Syrus: Well, yes indeed, you have what it takes to make it big.
Miller: What if I say I’m not like the others? (The Pretender)
Syrus: (Puzzled) Well, no one’s similar, you’ve got to be special. Think about it, give me
a call.
Syrus stands and exits.
Garcia, Jeff and Scott come over to Miller’s seat.
Garcia: So how did it go?
Jeff: Yep, don’t keep us in suspense.
Scott remains silent.
Miller: Well, he told me I had the potential to be a star, a singer!
Jeff: Good for you. (Gives a genuine smile)
Garcia: Oh. Did he say anything about us? (Waits for a positive answer)
Miller: Well not exactly, but I guess you guys would make good a good band for me?
Jeff: Anytime (spontaneous)
Scott: Yeah (cool)
Garcia: (Lags his response) Um, count me in I suppose.
