We are fed by our community, our culture, our
Switching to a coffee machine with an
insulated pot and no element makes a
BIG difference. If half our 550 offices
have coffee machines and all switched
to insulated, no element machines, we
could save over $100,000 per year!
Would you turn off your computer at the
end of your work day? "Sleep mode" still
uses substantial electricity. If 550 who leave
their computers on, switched off their
computers at the end of the day, we could
save more than $80,000/ann.
Wentworth Hallway: range walking down the hall from 40fc (between light
fixtures) to 120 fc (which is the recommended light level for doing surgery)
Science and Technology Hallway: range walking down the hall from 10fc
(good) to 110 fc (lit for surgery)
During orientation week,
we managed to divert over
99% of the waste produced
by New Freshmen
Orientation events to
either recycling or
compost.
That 99% would have gone
to our overflowing landfill.
We could do this every
day!
