333 Industrial-Organizational Psychology (3 credits) Examination<br />

<strong>of</strong> how behaviors and attitudes can be improved through hiring practices,<br />

training programs, and feedback systems; building more successful<br />

organizations by improving the performance and well-being <strong>of</strong> its people.<br />

Topics may include personnel decisions, personnel training, work<br />

motivation, job satisfaction, leadership, human resource management,<br />

and research expertise. Prerequisites: 110 and 111 (with at least a B- in<br />

350 Topics in Psychology (3 credits) Special topics <strong>of</strong> current interest<br />

are covered in depth. Only courses titled “Research in ___” may be used<br />

to fulfill the Research Course requirement. Prerequisites: 110 and 111<br />

(with at least a B- in either). (SBA)<br />

Individual Study in Psychology (Internships, Directed Study,<br />

Independent Study) Only one <strong>of</strong> these may fulfill requirements for the<br />

major. Departmental approval required. (SBA)<br />

Capstone Experience<br />

489 Senior Thesis Preparation (1 credit) Under the close supervision <strong>of</strong> an<br />

assigned faculty thesis advisor, students prepare a formal senior thesis proposal.<br />

Offered spring semester, junior year. Prerequisites: At least a C in Psyc 290 and<br />

291, at least a 2.30 psychology GPA, plus department permission.<br />

490 Senior Thesis (3 credits) Individual study required <strong>of</strong> all majors, whereby<br />

students, under the close supervision <strong>of</strong> an assigned thesis advisor, conduct<br />

research (either experimental or library) to test original hypotheses. Offered fall,<br />

January and spring terms. Prerequisites: At least a C in Psyc 290 and 291, at least<br />

a 2.30 psychology GPA, at least a C in Psyc 489, plus a thesis-advisor approved<br />

senior thesis proposal. (SBA)<br />

Psychology<br />

Requirements for the major: 39 credits in psychology, distributed as follows.<br />

Psychology majors must successfully complete three introductory courses (110,<br />

111, and 290) by the end <strong>of</strong> spring semester, sophomore year in order to<br />

graduate on time. At least a B- is required in 110 or 111 and at least a C is<br />

required in 290 and 291 in order to progress in the major. Psyc 290 may be<br />

taken only one time for psychology credit. Psyc 290, 291, and all courses<br />

numbered 360 and higher must be taken within the department.<br />
