Membership and seating in the ensemble are determined by audition at the
beginning of the Fall and the Spring semesters. The Hartwick Sinfonietta is a
group embedded in the Wind Ensemble, dedicated to expand its repertoire to
include music in combination with string instruments, piano, or voices.
332 College Choir (1 credit) Members selected by audition. Any
qualified student may audition. Public performances of a wide variety of
choral works, including masses, and oratorios, as well as secular works.
The College choir takes at least one trip per semester to a highly
educational musical performance, such as a concert of the New York
Philharmonic, or New York City Opera. A fee of $50 will automatically be
deducted from students’ accounts. This fee will cover both transportation

334 Catskill Symphony Orchestra (1 credit) Exceptional student
musicians may be accepted into the symphony orchestra. Audition
required. (CPA)
Music
All B.A. and B.S. majors must successfully pass an audition on their major
instrument for status as a major. The major ensemble for instrumental
majors is College Wind Ensemble/Sinfonietta; for vocal majors it is
College Choir. Review of major program occurs during spring term of
first, sophomore, junior, and senior years
Requirements for the major in Music (B.A.): 17 courses in
music, as follows:
12 courses in theory, aural skills and history:
140, 142, 240, 242 Music Theory I-IV
141, 143, 241, 243 Aural Skills I-IV
264, 265, 364, 365 Music History I-IV
One course in conducting, selected from:
320 Conducting I: Choral
322 Conducting II: Instrumental
One course in music internship:

One course in orchestration: (Required for instrumentalists):

Performance requirements for the major in music:
8 semesters of the following:
Mupf 302-308 Private Lessons on primary instrument
Mupf 330 or 332: major ensemble
Participation in chamber music ensembles (strongly recommended)
Attendance at weekly Departmental Convocations
