Prerequisites:
You must be 16 years of age to become
certified as an EMT-Basic in the State of
Connecticut
This 190+ hour course is the entry level
program that will train you to be an integral
member of the pre-hospital team. The course
provides instruction in basic life support
skills such as CPR, airway management,
treatment of bleeding control and shock
recognition. In addition, we will cover: care
for trauma victims, medical emergencies,
OB/GYN, and pediatrics.
During the program you will be required to
complete 10 hours of observation time,
separate from class time, at the Hartford
Hospital Emergency Department and/or at
a local ambulance service provider.
Upon successful completion of the program,
you will be eligible to apply for certification
from the National Registry of Emergency
Medical Technicians (NREMT). Candidates
who successfully pass the NREMT
certification examination are recognized as
nationally certified EMT-Basics.
The State of Connecticut uses the NREMT
examination to certify new EMT-Basics.
