Prerequisites:<br />

You must be 16 years of age to become<br />

certified as an <strong>EMT</strong>-<strong>Basic</strong> in the State of<br />

Connecticut<br />

This 190+ hour course is the entry level<br />

program that will train you to be an integral<br />

member of the pre-hospital team. The course<br />

provides instruction in basic life support<br />

skills such as CPR, airway management,<br />

treatment of bleeding control and shock<br />

recognition. In addition, we will cover: care<br />

for trauma victims, medical emergencies,<br />

OB/GYN, and pediatrics.<br />

During the program you will be required to<br />

complete 10 hours of observation time,<br />

separate from class time, at the <strong>Hartford</strong><br />

<strong>Hospital</strong> Emergency Department and/or at<br />

a local ambulance service provider.<br />

Upon successful completion of the program,<br />

you will be eligible to apply for certification<br />

from the National Registry of Emergency<br />

Medical Technicians (NR<strong>EMT</strong>). Candidates<br />

who successfully pass the NR<strong>EMT</strong><br />

certification examination are recognized as<br />

nationally certified <strong>EMT</strong>-<strong>Basic</strong>s.<br />

The State of Connecticut uses the NR<strong>EMT</strong><br />

examination to certify new <strong>EMT</strong>-<strong>Basic</strong>s.
