About the recording artists<br />

Violinist Frank Almond is the Concertmaster of the<br />

Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He holds two degrees<br />

from the Juilliard School, where studied with Dorothy<br />

Delay. At 17, he was one of the youngest prizewinners in<br />

the history of the Nicolo Paganini Competition in Genoa,<br />

Italy, and five years later was one of two American prizewinners<br />

at the Eighth International Tchaikovsky Competition<br />

in Moscow. He has been a member of the chamber group<br />

An die Musik in New York City since 1997, directs the<br />

highly successful Frankly Music Chamber Series, and<br />

continues an active schedule of solo and chamber music<br />

performances in the U.S. and abroad.<br />

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, pianist Elena Abend<br />

is well known as a soloist and chamber musician. She has<br />

performed with all the major orchestras of her country<br />

and has recorded with the Filarmonica Nacional. As the<br />

recipient of a scholarship from the Venezuelan Council<br />

for the Arts, Abend studied at the Juilliard School, where<br />

she received her Bachelor and Master degrees. She has<br />

performed at the Purcell Room in London’s Royal Festival<br />

<strong>Hal</strong>l, Avery Fisher <strong>Hal</strong>l in New York’s Lincoln Center,<br />

Weill Recital <strong>Hal</strong>l at Carnegie <strong>Hal</strong>l, and the Academy of<br />

Music with the Philadelphia Orchestra. She is on the music<br />

faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.<br />
