Municipal Elections www.halifax.ca/election Municipal Elections for Mayor and Councillors are held every four (4) years. The next Municipal Election in HRM will be held on Saturday October 20, 2012. Residents of HRM will be voting for the Mayor and 16 district councillors as well as representatives to the <strong>Halifax</strong> <strong>Regional</strong> School Board. To vote: • You must be at least 18 years old on election day • You must have lived in HRM for at least 3 months prior to election day • You must be a Canadian citizen To be a candidate: • You must be at least 18 years old on election day • You must have lived in HRM for at least 6 months prior to election day • You must register as a candidate and meet the requirements of registration • You must be a Canadian citizen How to Vote: To ensure residents of HRM have access and options to vote, HRM will be using a number of voting methods during advanced polls. These include • electronic voting (via the web), • telephone voting and • in person at the polls using paper ballots.
