Solid Waste
Resource Services
aste Resources is
responsible for the
implementation and
operation of the
municipality’s waste
resource management
system; maintenance of all
related infrastructure; and
management of 19 service
contracts, provided by 16
private sector service
providers/partners at a
value of $35 million
dollars. The
implementation and
management of the system
is guided by the strategy’s
objectives to maximize the
3 R’s (reduce, reuse and
recycle), maximize
environmental
sustainment and minimize
cost and encourage
stewardship. Waste
Resource Services include:
Recycling Services,
Organics/Composting
Services and Regular
Waste Management
Services, which includes
materials collection,
contract management,
materials processing,
marketing/
communication/education
programming, and
distribution and
management of carts;
Household Hazardous
Waste (HHW)
Management Services
includes sorting,
consolidating, bulking,
handling, transportation,
recycling and proper
disposal of hazardous
materials; and HWY 101
Landfill Environmental
Management includes the
Leachate Treatment Plant
and Flare Stack, site
maintenance and
monitoring issues relative
to site closure.
