The meeting, held at Sunquam Elementary School, was called to
order by Mrs. Greenspan at 7:00 p.m.
A Motion was made by Mrs. Sorkin, seconded by Mrs. Bottenus,
and carried unanimously (7-0) to convene into Executive Session
at 7:00 p.m. in order to discuss personnel and contractual issues.
The meeting convened into Open Session at 8:10 p.m.
Mrs. Greenspan commenced the meeting with the Pledge of
Allegiance.
The Board of Education and Administration introduced themselves
to the audience.
Mrs. Greenspan welcomed everyone to this evening’s Board of
Education Meeting.
Dr. Karnilow said it was a pleasure to be at Sunquam Elementary
School.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Ms. Karen Littell, Principal of Sunquam Elementary School,
welcomed everyone to Sunquam. She recognized the Sunquam
faculty who were able to join us this evening. She introduced the
President and Vice President of Sunquam Student Council, Katie
Farello and Zack Silber. They shared their memories of Sunquam
over the years. A video presentation was shown featuring the
Sunquam Stars.

Congratulations 5 th Grade AHAP Students
The 5 th Grade AHAP Students were Regional Competition
Winners in their Odyssey of the Mind Competition. Dr. Karnilow
introduced Mr. Philip Stuart and Mrs. Valerie Geiler who are
AHAP Teachers. Dr. Karnilow recognized Ms. Tobi Philips who
coordinated the program. The Superintendent and Board of
Education presented certificates to the boys and girls who did an
outstanding job:

Dr. Karnilow acknowledged Elementary Principals, Linda Rudes,
Martin Boettcher, Ross Diener and Assistant Principal, Deborah
Forsyth in the audience this evening, who showed support for their
students who participated in Odyssey of the Mind.
PRESENTATION:
Magenta and the Magic Cloth
Ms. Patricia Gordon, High School East Club Advisor for Magenta
and the Magic Cloth, highlighted the club’s work in educating and
improving the sanitary conditions of water in remote villages in
Peru. Co-Presidents, Lisa Ruggiero and Diandre DeCaro,
explained how the club makes bags out of donated jeans. They
then fill the bags with supplies and send them to kids in the rain
forest. They will be having a Fashion Show on March 23 rd from 7-
10 p.m.

Mr. Victor Manuel, Assistant Superintendent for Finance and
Facilities, presented the 2007-2008 Preliminary Budget. A copy
of the presentation is attached.

DESIGNATION OF
DEPOSITORIES:
RESOLVED that the Board of Education, upon the
recommendation of the Assistant Superintendent for Finance
Facilities, authorizes the Board President to name Commerce
Bank, HSBC and Wachovia Bank as additional official
depositories for the 2006-07 school year.
A Motion was made by Mr. Marcucci, seconded by Mrs. Catapano,
and carried unanimously (7-0) to approve the above Resolution.
DONATION – HILLS FOUNDATION/
HILLS ON STAGE: BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education moves to accept
the generous donation of $1,423.50 from the Hills Foundation to
pay for incurred costs for the recent “Hills on Stage” production of
Peter Pan.
A Motion was made by Mrs. Catapano, seconded by Mrs.
Kaufman, and carried unanimously (7-0) to approve the above
Resolution.
