The meeting, held at Sunquam Elementary School, was called to<br />

order by Mrs. Greenspan at 7:00 p.m.<br />

A Motion was made by Mrs. Sorkin, seconded by Mrs. Bottenus,<br />

and carried unanimously (7-0) to convene into Executive Session<br />

at 7:00 p.m. in order to discuss personnel and contractual issues.<br />

The meeting convened into Open Session at 8:10 p.m.<br />

Mrs. Greenspan commenced the meeting with the Pledge <strong>of</strong><br />

Allegiance.<br />

The Board <strong>of</strong> Education and Administration introduced themselves<br />

to the audience.<br />

Mrs. Greenspan welcomed everyone to this evening’s Board <strong>of</strong><br />

Education Meeting.<br />

Dr. Karnilow said it was a pleasure to be at Sunquam Elementary<br />

School.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: Ms. Karen Littell, Principal <strong>of</strong> Sunquam Elementary School,<br />

welcomed everyone to Sunquam. She recognized the Sunquam<br />

faculty who were able to join us this evening. She introduced the<br />

President and Vice President <strong>of</strong> Sunquam Student Council, Katie<br />

Farello and Zack Silber. They shared their memories <strong>of</strong> Sunquam<br />

over the years. A video presentation was shown featuring the<br />

Sunquam Stars.<br />

Congratulations 5 th Grade AHAP Students<br />

The 5 th Grade AHAP Students were Regional Competition<br />

Winners in their Odyssey <strong>of</strong> the Mind Competition. Dr. Karnilow<br />

introduced Mr. Philip Stuart and Mrs. Valerie Geiler who are<br />

AHAP Teachers. Dr. Karnilow recognized Ms. Tobi Philips who<br />

coordinated the program. The Superintendent and Board <strong>of</strong><br />

Education presented certificates to the boys and girls who did an<br />

outstanding job:<br />

Dr. Karnilow acknowledged Elementary Principals, Linda Rudes,<br />

Martin Boettcher, Ross Diener and Assistant Principal, Deborah<br />

Forsyth in the audience this evening, who showed support for their<br />

students who participated in Odyssey <strong>of</strong> the Mind.<br />

PRESENTATION:<br />

Magenta and the Magic Cloth<br />

Ms. Patricia Gordon, High School East Club Advisor for Magenta<br />

and the Magic Cloth, highlighted the club’s work in educating and<br />

improving the sanitary conditions <strong>of</strong> water in remote villages in<br />

Peru. Co-Presidents, Lisa Ruggiero and Diandre DeCaro,<br />

explained how the club makes bags out <strong>of</strong> donated jeans. They<br />

then fill the bags with supplies and send them to kids in the rain<br />

forest. They will be having a Fashion Show on March 23 rd from 7-<br />

10 p.m.<br />

Mr. Victor Manuel, Assistant Superintendent for Finance and<br />

Facilities, presented the 2007-2008 Preliminary Budget. A copy<br />

DESIGNATION OF<br />

DEPOSITORIES:<br />

RESOLVED that the Board <strong>of</strong> Education, upon the<br />

recommendation <strong>of</strong> the Assistant Superintendent for Finance<br />

Facilities, authorizes the Board President to name Commerce<br />

Bank, HSBC and Wachovia Bank as additional <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />

depositories for the 2006-07 <strong>school</strong> year.<br />

A Motion was made by Mr. Marcucci, seconded by Mrs. Catapano,<br />

and carried unanimously (7-0) to approve the above Resolution.<br />

DONATION – HILLS FOUNDATION/<br />

HILLS ON STAGE: BE IT RESOLVED that the Board <strong>of</strong> Education moves to accept<br />

the generous donation <strong>of</strong> $1,423.50 from the Hills Foundation to<br />

pay for incurred costs for the recent “Hills on Stage” production <strong>of</strong><br />

Peter Pan.<br />

A Motion was made by Mrs. Catapano, seconded by Mrs.<br />

Kaufman, and carried unanimously (7-0) to approve the above<br />

Resolution.<br />
