The meeting, held at Candlewood Middle School, was called to
order by Mrs. Greenspan at 7:00 p.m.
A Motion was made by Mrs. Bottenus, seconded by Mrs. Sorkin,
and carried unanimously (7-0) to convene into Executive Session
at 7:00 p.m. in order to discuss personnel and contractual issues.
The meeting convened into Open Session at 8:00 p.m.
Mrs. Greenspan commenced the meeting with the Pledge of
Allegiance.
The Board of Education and Administration introduced themselves
to the audience.
Mrs. Greenspan asked for a moment of silence in memory of
Filomena Camilli who was a long time Paraprofessional at West
Hollow Middle School. She passed away last week after a long
illness.

Dr. Karnilow said it is a pleasure to be a Candlewood Middle
School tonight. This evening, we have some wonderful things to

Dr. Karnilow announced that Mrs. Greenspan was honored by
N-SSBA with their Distinguished Service Award at their Annual
Dinner Meeting on June 5, 2007.

who has organized the collection of over 2,500 pairs of eyeglasses
for the Gift of Sight to be distributed to less fortunate people
around the world.

on behalf of our children.

RAFFLE:
Mr. Bob Gordon, President of The Hills Foundation, thanked the
Board of Education and the Administration for their support
throughout the year. The Hills Foundation is a not-for-profit
organization that raises money for educational purposes in the
community. The Raffle is one of their fundraisers and this evening
they will be picking the winners. Mrs. Judy Faber joined Mr.
Gordon and asked Dr. Karnilow and members of his staff to pick
the 2007 Hills Foundation Raffle winners:

The District Clerk highlighted the letters received by the Board:
5/31/07: Letter from the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County inviting
the Board to their Silver Award Ceremony on June 15 th .
5/29/07: Letter from St. Matthew Athletics thanking the District
for allowing them to use our gym facilities for their
practices. They delivered a supply of St. Matthew
basketballs as a token of their appreciation.

REPORTS:
Mrs. Bottenus reported that the Facilities Committee, including
Mrs. Greenspan, Mrs. Kaufman, Mr. Ptucha, Mrs. Sorkin, Mr.
Manuel, Mr. Gelo and Mr. Pennacchio, along with Landtek Corp.
and Weidersum Associates, toured the athletic fields at High
School East (in the pouring rain!) to see how exactly they are
going to extend the field width by approximately 20’.

Mrs. Ptucha reported that the Community Awareness Committee
has been discussing the proposed Long Island Truck-Rail
Intermodal Facility. The only Hearing on this project will be held
tomorrow evening, July 19, 2007, at Brentwood Middle School.
Mr. Ptucha encouraged people to attend to learn more about this
project and the health and safety issues that go along with it. Dr.
Karnilow will send a letter to the DOT on behalf of the School
District requesting an additional Hearing to be held within the
District.

BE IT RESOLVED upon recommendation of Corinne Carriero,
Instructional Computer Director, that the iMac computers listed on
the attached Appendix C, due to obsolescence or lack of
functionality, are no longer viable for use by the District and are
hereby declared surplus and to be disposed of in a manner that is in
the best interest of the Half Hollow Hills Central School District.
BE IT RESOLVED upon recommendation of Sunil John,
Management Information Systems Supervisor, the computers listed
on the attached Appendix C, due to obsolescence or lack of
functionality, are no longer viable for use by the District and are
hereby declared surplus and to be disposed of in a manner that is in
the best interest of the Half Hollow Hills Central School District.

BE IT RESOLVED upon recommendation of James Gallo,
Director of Technology, that the two Johnson Gas Furnaces listed
on the attached Appendix C, due to obsolescence or lack of
functionality, are no longer viable for use by the District and are
hereby declared surplus and to be disposed of in a manner that is in
the best interest of the Half Hollow Hills Central School District.
BE IT RESOLVED upon recommendation of Joan Fowler,
Director of Math, that the out-dated math books at High School
East listed on the attached Appendix C, due to obsolescence, are
no longer viable for use by the District and are hereby declared
surplus and to be disposed of in a manner that is in the best interest
of the Half Hollow Hills Central School District.
COOPERATIVE FOOD & SUPPLIES
BID RESOLUTION: A Motion was made by Mr. Marcucci, seconded by Mrs.
Catapano, and carried unanimously (7-0) to approve the attached
Cooperative Food & Supplies Bid Resolution.
EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT:
WHEREAS in accordance with State Law and the requirements of
Project SAVE, the Board of Education of the Half Hollow Hills
Central School District has reviewed the proposed district-wide
and building-level school safety plans regarding crisis intervention,
emergency response and management developed by the districtwide
and building-level school safety teams, respectively, and has
held a period of public comment and a public hearing with respect
to said plans;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education
of the Half Hollow Hills Central School District, upon the
recommendation of the district-wide and building-level school
safety teams, and after due consideration of public comment and
discussion with respect to the proposed plans, hereby adopts the
proposed Comprehensive District-wide School Safety Plan and
Building-Level Emergency Response Plans, and directs the
administration to file copies of the district-wide plan and any
amendments thereto with the Commissioner of Education within
30 days of adoption, and to file copies of the building- level plans
and any amendments thereto with the state police and local law
enforcement within 30 days of adoption.
A Motion was made by Mr. Marcucci, seconded by Mrs.
Catapano, and carried unanimously (7-0) to approve the above
Resolution.

Mr. Manuel thanked Mr. Jim Anderson who did an outstanding job
with our Emergency Management Plan.
MILLIMAN ACTUARIAL
SERVICES:
BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Half
Hollow Hills Central School District approves the Consulting
Services Agreement between Milliman, Inc. and Half Hollow Hills
Central School District at a fee of $13,000 for the 2006/2007
school year.
A Motion was made by Mr. Marcucci, seconded by Mrs.
Catapano, and carried unanimously (7-0) to approve the above
Resolution.
REPORT-IT.COM
AGREEMENT:
BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Half
Hollow Hills Central School District approves the Anonymous and
Confidential Hotline Services Agreement by and between Report-
It.com, Inc. and Half Hollow Hills Central School District to
provide 24 hour/7 day services at a fee of $8,000

FUND RESERVES:
WHEREAS by action of the Board of Education, the Half Hollow
Hills Central School District has previously established the
following reserves:
Reserve for Employee Benefit Accrued Liability
Workers’ Compensation Reserve
Reserve for Retirement Contribution
Unemployment Insurance Reserve
Reserve for Property Loss
Reserve for Liability
NOW, BE IT RESOLVED that upon the recommendation of the
Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Facilities, the Board of
Education of the Half Hollow Hills Central School District authorizes
transferring funds into the following reserves up to the following
amounts for the period ending June 30, 2007:
Workers’ Compensation Reserve $ 864,452*
Unemployment Insurance Reserve $ 10,045*
Reserve for Retirement Contribution $2,693,355**
Reserve for Employee Benefit Accrued Liability $3,149,253*

allowable for each category, and would fully fund each of the
reserves. The actual amounts transferred will be determined after
the close of the 2006-2007 fiscal year, and additional resolutions

October 25-28, 2007.
