CONGRATULATIONS
It was an excellent spring for
GHS sports teams. All of our
varsity teams qualified for both
Southern Connecticut Conference
and CIAC tournaments
and they all did very well in
these tournaments. Numerous
athletes received post season
honors including All Hammonasset,
All SCC, All State, New
Haven Register All Area with
two MVP’s and State Champions.
Our baseball team was
honored as “Team of the Year”
by the Southern Connecticut
Diamond Club. School records
were broken by members of
our girl’s track team.
Off the field, there were 76
athletes whom met the high
standards of being a GHS
SPORTS CARNIVAL
On June 1 st over 100 Guilford
children ages 6­12 were treated
to a day of fun on our new turf
field. High school athletes,
coaches and parents helped
them learn new skills or games
at stations that were sport specific.
It gave our high school
teams a chance to promote
their sports while helping the
children enjoy the activities.
Children were given free T­
Shirts (complements of the
Guilford Recreation Department)
if they attended each of
Scholar Athlete. Numerous athletes,
coaches and parents participated in
the First Annual Sports Carnival for
young athletes ages 6­12 held at
GHS on June 1. Many participated
in the Annual American Cancer Society’s
Relay for Life.
It was indeed a wonderful spring
and we are grateful for all that was
accomplished and proud of our student­athletes
who helped make it all
happen.
Good luck to all our seniors who
are moving on with the next phase
of their lives. You have been an
outstanding class who has set the
bar very high for our future classes.

and rewarding summer. You

SPRING SEASON
TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS
· Baseball ended another successful season with an overall 20­4 record. They won the Hammonasset Division
Championship, were seeded #1 in both the SCC tournament and Class L CIAC tournament but unfortunately
lost in the semi­finals of each. They were honored as the Team of the Year by the Southern Connecticut
Diamond Club.
· Softball finished their season with a 16­8 overall record. They competed in both the SCC and CIAC
tournaments where they won one game in each tournament before losing.
· Girl’s Lacrosse completed a fine season with a 13­8 record. They also won one game in each tournament
before losing.
· Boy’s Lacrosse had a fine season and finished with a 11­8 record. They qualified for the SCC tournament
and beat Avon in the first round of the CIAC tournament before losing to Conard 15­13 in the second
round.
· Girl’s Tennis ended their season with a 10­9 record. They played in both the SCC and CIAC tournaments
losing to Branford in the SCC’s and beating both Maloney and Suffield in the CIAC tournament before
bowing to New Canaan.
· Boy’s Tennis finished with a 10­8 record and finished third in the CIAC Class M Championship. They
also won the Hammonasset Championship.
· Girl’s Track had an improved season by placing 2 nd in the Hammonasset Division, 7 th in the SCC’s and
10 th in the Class L Championships. Their regular season record was 5­7.
· Boy’s Track finished with a 3­9 record.
· Golf had another successful season where the placed 6 th in the SCC tournament and 12 th in the Division
II State tournament. They ended their regular season with a 15­5 record and captured the Hammonasset Division
Championship.
· Crew finished their second season as a GHS varsity sport and successfully competed in all their races.
INDIVIDUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
· The following earned SCC All­Hammonasset Division honors: Sam Greenberg, Eric Schlitter, Ryan
Brockett, Mike Pavelko, Mike Yates (baseball), Addie Sanders, Mallory Street, Kate Hobson (softball),
Jeff Deacon, Sage Aronson, Mike Ruotolo, Nick Hyzak, Chris Hoge (tennis), Katherine Crabtree, Kelsey
Proctor, Valerie Williams, Allison Bonito, Kathleen Elliott, Gracie Brown­Geist (track).
· The following were selected All­SCC first team: Sean Leary, Sarah Salatto, Rachel Hoey (lacrosse), Aubrey
Brooks (tennis), Brad Lincoln (golf).
· The following were second team All SCC: AJ Leary, Fred Turcio, Holly Davis, Amelia Farnham
(lacrosse).
· All­State Teams included the following: Addie Sanders (softball), Aubrey Brooks (tennis), Will Jolin,
Sam Greenberg, Eric Schlitter (baseball), Jeff Deacon, Mike Ruotolo (tennis), Brad Lincoln, Brooke Stepanek
(golf), Sean Leary, Fred Turcio, AJ Leary, Kevin Leary (Class M 2 nd Team Lacrosse).
· The New Haven Register announced the following were selected to their All­Area Teams: Addie Sanders
(softball MVP), Aubrey Brooks (tennis MVP), Sandy Palumbo, Sarah Salatto, AJ Leary (lacrosse), Sage
Aronson, Jeff Deacon, Mike Ruotolo (tennis) Sam Greenberg, Eric Schlitter (baseball)
· The following were selected to play in senior All­Star Games: Will Jolin, Sam Greenberg, Addie Sanders,
Emma Stockmann, Amelia Farnham.
· Mike Ruotolo and Jeff Deacon won the Class M Double State Championship.

· Gracie Brown­Geist, Katherine Crabtree, Allison Bonito and Kathleen Elliott broke the school record
in the 4x800 m relay with a time of 9:35.05
· Katherine Crabtree set school records in the 800m (2:18.59) and 1600m (5:10.62).
· Dennis McGinley (baseball) and Rachel Hoey (lacrosse) were selected to play in junior All­Star games.

PARTICIPATION
· 912 Total Athletes (counting multiple sport athletes multiple times)
· 594 Individual Athletes (multiple athletes counted once) ­ 51% of school population of 1147 participate in
athletics.
IMPACT TESTING
At least once during their high school career each student athlete must take a computerized test called Impact
(Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) that will be used by our trainer and the student’s
doctor to help assess when it is safe to return to play following a head injury. All incoming freshmen who plan on
playing a sport anytime during the year are asked to take this test on one of the following dates if possible: August
19 th , 20 th , and 21 st at 9:00 a.m. Other dates will be scheduled if necessary. An appointment to take the test can be
made by calling 453­2741 ext.212 after August 1 st .

SIDELINERS BANQUET
The 49th Annual Sideliners Banquet was held on June 11 at the Greene
Community Center. One hundred­thirty one senior athletes were presented
with plaques identifying their varsity sports participation while at
GHS. All State, Scholar Athletes and Team MVP’s were also presented
with plaques. Special awards were given to: Tom Sheridan, our girl’s
hockey coach, for Coach of the Year. Paul Schmidt was presented the
Jack Erb Award for his volunteer efforts helping to improve all our
fields as chairman of the Fields Committee and Jack Whaley was given
the John Moffitt Award for his long tenure as a volunteer wrestling
coach. The John Sullivan Award was presented to Guilford Food Center
for their generous support as a business.
COACHES SCHOLARSHIPS
Addie Sanders and Will Jolin were selected to receive the Annual Guilford Coaches Association athlete of
the year Scholarships presented at the Sideliner’s Banquet. These scholarships are given to two individuals
who have excelled in athletics during their high school career, who are outstanding school citizens and who
have participated in more than one sport. They epitomize the type of athlete our coaching staff enjoys
coaching.
Addie is a two sport athlete and captain who played hockey and softball. She was named to the Central
Connecticut Girls Hockey League All­League Team as a senior and was All New Register MVP, All
Hammonasset and two time All­State for softball.. She will be attending St. Joseph’s University in the fall
and will walk­on as a softball player.
Will played hockey and baseball for the Indians all four years. He was a captain of the hockey team and
earned All State recognition in his sophomore and senior years. As a baseball player he earned All State
honors in both is junior and senior years and was tournament MVP his junior year. He will be attending the
University of Florida to play baseball next year.
LEADERSHIP AWARD
The Leadership Award was established to recognize that student­athlete who has demonstrated positive
leadership skills while attending Guilford High School. Ryan Brockett received this year’s award. He
was a captain of three sports (soccer, basketball and baseball), He earned numerous postseason honors in
all three sports and earned twelve varsity awards during his career at GHS. He has set a very high standard
for others to follow. Congratulations.
NFHS AND CIAC RECOGNITION
Aubrey Brooks and Adam Petrone received awards from the National Federation
of High Schools and the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference for their
outstanding display of Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity during their high school
career. They are fine examples of the positive influence high school athletics can
have on our athletes.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION PROCEDURES
· A current physical examination form must be on file with the school nurse in order to participate.
· The examination expires 13 months from the date of the examination.
· When the physical examination expires the student­athlete is athletically ineligible to practice and/
or compete.
· Student­Athletes and their parents are responsible for knowing the expiration date of their physical.
**Note: An important distinction in physical examination requirements is that the State of CT Department of
Health Assessment Record (Grade 10 Physical Exam) cannot be used instead of the sports participation
physical exam. The Sports Physical Exam must be documented on The Sports Participation Health Record.

GHS SCHOLAR ATHLETES
The following athletes earned the distinction of earning Guilford High School Scholar Athlete status by receiving
at least one varsity award and by maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 15.5 for
their academic career. The sophomores and juniors were presented with certificates at a breakfast during
school hours while the seniors were presented plaques at the Sideliners Banquet.
