A Comprehensive Autel MaxiScan MS509 Review
The Autel MaxiScan MS509 is a tool used for diagnosing car problems of whatever nature. This
tool is designed to solve some of the most complex problems in all cars manufactured that were
since 1996 to these days and all that are OBD II compliant from the United States of America,
Asia and Europe as well.
The MaxiScan MS509 OBD2 scanner supports control area network as well as all OBD II
protocols. It is also upgradable through an optional upgrade kit. This allows it to support any other
new OBD II protocols regardless of when it was manufactured.
The MS509 code scanner is capable of performing the following functions:
• Determine the cause of check engine light, turn it off, clear codes and reset monitors as well.
• Retrieve pending codes, manufacturer specific codes, P1, P3 and U1 to be specific and generic
P0, P2, P3 and U0 codes.
• Read, display, store and playback live 02 sensor data.
• It has a memory/ battery backup to enable the user review and analyze off-vehicle data.
• Retrieve and display vehicle information including the VIN, CVN and CIN.
• It has a multi-lingual menu that supports several languages including English, German, Spanish
and French among others. It also has DTC definitions to further ease operation.
• It displays monitor and I/M readiness status.
• It also performs modules present test.
• It is also capable of printing all this data through a computer.
The MaxiScan MS509 comes with several contents that aid in operation. These include:
• Nylon carrying case.
• A user’s manual.
• CD software.
• A USB cable.
• A 6-foot OBD II cable.
• A 9V cell battery.
• A MaxiScan MS509 tool.
The MaxiScan MS509 is quite simple to operate, but it is recommended that the user, if not a
professional, be sure of what he/she is doing before initiating a diagnosis. The reason behind this
is that should the user not understand what he/she is doing, he/she might distort the information
making review and analysis quite complex for the professional mechanic. When displaying the
sensor code, the MaxiScan MS509 gives the user an option of asking for a detailed explanation

through the help button marked by the question mark (?) Updating this tool is also quite simple
and fast.
For vehicles that are not OBD II compliant, an OBD II connector makes it possible for the
MaxiScan MS509 OBD2 scanner to analyze and diagnose it. For instance, a TOYOTA that is
not OBD II compliant makes use of the JI962 OBD II connector.
