Fred Bennett is a Managing Director in Grant
Thornton LLP’s Forensic and Valuation Services
practice in Dallas.
Experience
Fred joined Grant Thornton following a 23$year
career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
During his career at the FBI, he served in three
field divisions, two resident agencies, and twice at
FBI Headquarters. There, he developed an
expertise in white$collar crime investigations.
An accountant, Fred has extensive knowledge of
a variety of white$collar criminal matters,
including internal corporate and financial fraud
investigations. He has conducted and coordinated
national and international multifaceted
investigations involving health care fraud, money
laundering matters, financial institution fraud,
government contracting fraud, racketeering
(RICO) matters, and asset tracing/forfeiture. He
has testified as a fact and expert witness.
Fred’s extensive investigative experience and
leadership resulted in the successful resolution of
numerous high$profile fraud investigations. In his
last assignment, Mr. Bennett held the Assistant
Special Agent in Charge position, the second
highest position in a field office, where he was
responsible for the day$to$day operations of in
excess of 250 Special Agents.
Prior to entering the FBI, Mr. Bennett was
employed by a Certified Public Accounting firm
where he spent five years researching IRS
Revenue Code laws for the preparation of
corporate and partnership income tax returns.
Representative engagements
• Testified as an expert witness in civil
proceeding in Dallas County court involving
asset tracing, tax return, and bank statement
analysis.
• Managed audits of financial institutions and
municipal operations and provided/prepared
appropriate findings.
• Investigated and prepared for prosecution
multi$defendant complex bank embezzlements,
money laundering activities, and health care
fraud matters.
• Managed numerous litigation matters that
involved the analysis of voluminous amounts of
material to determine the scope of criminal
activity for a number of business entities.
• Extensive experience in providing testimony
before all levels of Federal courts to include
jury trials.
