Camp Wood Haven - Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania

WOOD HAVEN 

Pine Grove, PA 

Located in southern Schuylkill County on the Swatara Creek, Camp Wood Haven provides 

200 acres of forests, meadows, and protected wetlands. Wood Haven features a pool for 

swimming, low ropes course, climbing wall and a large sports field. Camp Wood Haven offers 

a selection of Horseback Riding Programs, Leadership and Trip Programs. 

Campers may live in a tent, Adirondack shelter or a tree house with three to five other girls. 

Each unit (grouping of tents or shelters) has a pavilion or unit shelter and electricity. Boating 

programs are offered at Sweet Arrow Lake, a 60-acre lake located on 123 acres of land 15 

minutes from camp. Older girls participate daily in “Choose Your Own Adventure” which 

allows them the freedom to choose their own activities. Every Tuesday is Tie-Dye Tuesday! In 

addition to themed activities as described, all girls will swim daily, play games, sing songs, make 

cool crafts, sleep out, stargaze and have lots of fun! Some programs offer multiple sessions 

during the summer. All full week programs will choose which badge they would like to earn. 

Half Week Programs: 

Not all activities will be completed in the half 

week programs. Half week programs will run 

from Sunday to Tuesday. Pick up time is on 

Tuesday at 8pm.

this fun sleepover! Take part in a dance 

party, go on a night hike, make up skits 

and after a night of adventure sleep in 

the next day and make breakfast

My Little Pony 



Cost: $350 

Giddy up, y’all! There’s plenty of horsing 

around for our pony girls this week. Visit 

the on-site stables to learn all about 

horses and even ride! Bring your favorite 

stuffed pony with you to join in the games, 

crafts and a pony lunch. Girls of all riding 

abilities are accepted into this program. 

American Girls 

July 14-19 




Pack up your American Girl doll and 

spend your time at camp with other 

American girls. Travel back in time and 

learn about different American girls and 

their stories, crafts, songs and games. 

You’ll even take part in an American 

girl party. 

Best of Both Worlds 

July 21-26 




Get the best of both worlds. Enjoy 

tie-dying, making swaps, face painting, 

singing, dancing and music! You will 

have plenty of time to experience all of 

the other camp activities! 

Make New Friends

Enjoy all the different activities camp 

has to offer. Make crafts, swim in the 

pool, cook outdoors, make s’mores, and 

explore camp – all while making new friends! 

Pixie Power

Camp is filled with fairies, princesses

to share their magic with you! Explore the 

magical world of Teardrop Island, make 

a magic wand, design and create your 

own tiara and dress up for a magical 

pixie party.

one session or come back again for 

multiple sessions, as all skill levels are 

catered to each week. Earn segments 

of the GSEP Equestrian Patch. 

Animal Lover

Cost: $325 

Calling all animal lovers! Spend the week 

learning about different kinds of animals. 

You and your fellow animal lovers will take 

care of different pets during the week, 

visit the barn to learn about the horses, 

take a ride, explore the wetlands, and visit 

an Alpaca farm. (Weather Permitting) 

Art Adventure 



Cost: $325 

It’s up to you and your fellow campers 

to find the buried treasure of Teardrop 

Island. Meet the “Lady of the Island”. 

Hear stories about her adventures as 

she gives you a different challenge each 

day. During the week you will create a 

work of jeweled art and make your own 

box of treasures. 

Fireflies 





While everyone else is sleeping, you will 

be up and having fun! Stay up late and 

enjoy a sleep-in breakfast almost every 

day. With evening swimming, nighttime 

crafts, moonlit games, night hiking, and 

sleeping out under the stars, you’ll be 

calling yourself nocturnal in no time. 

You’ll still get plenty of sleep and be 

able 

to enjoy camp’s daytime activities, too. 

Trackers

What mystery lies in the hole in the 

ground? Does a snake live there? Where 

do butterflies sleep at night? If you want 

to learn more about wildlife and the 

forest they call home, join us for a week 

of camp as we track animal footprints, 

geocache and shoot archery. You’ll also 

learn how to cook a meal outdoors and 

take a ride on a horse. 

Spa Wood Haven

Cost: $325 

Lay back and relax! Enjoy homemade 

facials, make your own lip gloss, lotion, 

body glitter and have fun painting your 

nails. When you are not pampering 

yourself, participate in martial arts, 

yoga and aqua aerobics. Learn about 

fitness, fun and good health while still 

enjoying all the other activities camp 

has to offer. 

Extreme Experiments

Fizzy, bubbly experiments are waiting 

for a super scientist like you! Join other 

mad scientists as you explore how to 

make your experiments grow, pop, and 

explode. Spend your week having fun 

with slime and ooze; and take a trip to a 

hands-on science center. 

Party Rockers

Celebrate parties from around the 

world. Make a piñata, learn dances from 

other countries, and sample some 

special international treats. Every day 

is a party at Camp Wood Haven! 

Mischief Managed

Riddles, mysteries and clues oh my! 

It’s a fun-filled week of solving exciting 

challenges and obstacles. Stump your 

teammates when you create your 

own secret camp map and send them 

on a giant scavenger hunt with clues 

and codes they have to solve. Spend 

extra time on the ropes course figuring 

out how to conquer each element. 

Splish Splash 

August 4-9 




On a hot summer day, there is no better 

place to be than the pool. Spend plenty 

of time playing water games, having a 

floating lunch, and enjoying an evening 


luau. Continue your refreshing water 

activities with a creek hike, a water 

balloon fight, and a visit to Sweet Arrow 

Lake to go canoeing. 

Star Trekkers 

August 4-9 


Cost: $330 

Hiking in daytime can be fun, but hiking 

at twilight is fantastic! Join your friends 

for night time games like flashlight tag, 

glow in the dark archery and moonlight 

hikes. Plan a stargazing sleepover, take 

a tour of the summer night sky as well as 

a planetarium.

Ghostbusters

Explore the mysteries of Gettysburg 

while you spend three days and 

two nights there. Take the Ghosts of 

Gettysburg tour –voted the #1 ghost 

tour in the world— and experience an 

interactive tour that features hands-on 

methods of ghost investigation. Assist 

in a ghost hunt, and bring your cameras 

to document the event! During the day, 

you’ll have the opportunity to visit the 

Gettysburg Visitor Center, tour the

Wet & Wild

Water + sun = fun! Hang out at the pool, 

explore Teardrop Island, and go on a 

creek hike—if that isn’t enough, leave 

camp to raft at Jim Thorpe and spend 

a day at Camel Beach. This program is 

for girls who love extreme water activities. 

Amusement Park Mania

If you can’t get enough of roller 

coasters and log flumes, we have just 

the program to get your adrenaline 

pumping. Go to Hershey Park, Dorney 

Park and Knoebels. 

Chillin’ Out 

June 23-28 


Cost: $320 

Are you looking for a more relaxed 

camp program? On Sunday evening, 

decide with your counselors how you 

would like to spend your week. You may 

choose to sleep in, enjoy chillin’ by 

the pool, go on “night bear” swims, or 

just have extra downtime in your unit. 

Take a trip out of camp to play mini golf 

and visit an old fashioned ice cream parlor. 

GSEP Adventure 



Cost: $695 

Meet Girl Scouts from all over the 

council during this 2-week program. 

Sample some of the best activities GSEP 

camps have to offer. Climb the wall 

and horseback ride English style at 

Wood Haven, shoot archery and ride 

Western at Laughing Waters, climb 

high and low ropes at Tohikanee, boat 

and hike to Jacob’s ladder at Mosey 

Wood, climb the rock face and boat 

at Tweedale. You will return to Wood 

Haven to participate in regular activities 

in between your trips to other camps. 

There are no swimming or horseback 

riding prerequisites for this program. 

Bit & Bridle 



Cost: $750 

During this 2-week program, you will 

have the chance to take a trip out of 

camp to a horse show or the rodeo. Try 

your hand at another style of riding and 

learn more about caring for a horse. 

Participate in a horse show at camp.

Maid Marians Quest 



Cost: $360 

Ready your bows, take aim, and shoot 

some summer fun! Spend extra time 

at the archery range, make your own 

targets, and learn about fletching as

you prepare for the Great Tri-Archery 

challenge! In this three-part friendly 

competition, you’ll shoot at a floating 

target, show your archery skills in range 

challenges and participate in a special 

field archery event. With new friends, 

take a visit to an off-site archery range, 

you’re sure to hit a bull’s eye of fun 

and adventure. 

On the Road 



Cost: $400 

We’re on the road again! Spend the week 

going on day trips. Have breakfast at 

Shady Maple Smorgasbord and enjoy 

some outlet shopping in Lancaster, 

visit Dutch Springs Aqua Park, and take 

a trip to Knoebels amusement park. 

River Riders 



Cost: $800 

Girls will encounter some serious 

adventure with this exciting two-week 

trip program. Before leaving camp for 

the big trip, girls will raft the Lehigh River, 

take a hike on the Appalachian Trail, 

explore the low ropes course and climb 

the wall. Then when they are ready, they 

will travel to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia 

where they will whitewater raft, try their 

hand at the adventure course and hike. 

They will also have time to explore the 

National Park and town of Harpers Ferry. 

Saddle Up 



Cost: $750 

During this two-week program, you will 

have the chance to take a trip out of 

camp to a horse show or the rodeo. 

Spend time increasing your knowledge 

of horse care and refine your riding skills. 

Participate in a horse show at camp. 

* Elementary riders or above only. 


Swamp Thing 



Cost: $320 

What crawls in the mud at camp? 

Find out what lives and breathes in 

and out of the water of the Swatara 

Creek. Spend time at Teardrop Island, 

take a creek hike, go boating and visit 

the marshlands at Sweet Arrow Lake. 

And if that isn’t enough have your own 

dirty run at camp and enjoy some 

mudrucking. This program is for the 

girl that is not afraid of getting dirty! 

Art Extravaganza 

July 7-12 


Cost: $365 

Painting, sketching and many other art 

mediums will fill this imaginative week of 

camp. Recreate a famous masterpiece, 

or just use one as inspiration for your 

own self expression. Take a trip to the 

Philadelphia Art Museum. 

Glee 

July 14-26 


Cost: $745 

It’s show time at Camp Wood Haven! 

Delve into the world of singing, dancing 

and acting during your two-week stay. 

You will have the chance to visit the 

Dutch Apple Theatre, tour backstage 

and then enjoy dinner and a show. 

During your rehearsal breaks, you’ll 

have time for swimming, archery, 

and much more. Finish your weeks of 

theatricality with a performance for 

the rest of camp and your families. 

Oh the Places you’ll Go!

During your two-week stay travel to 

Williamsburg, Virginia where you will 

experience “colonial” life in America. 

While in Williamsburg take a side 

trip to Busch Gardens and Water 

Country USA. Just in case that’s not 

enough to do, spend the day at Virginia 

Beach walking the boardwalk and 

just having fun. While in camp before 

your trip enhance your skills on the 

low ropes course, the climbing wall 

and archery just to name a few. 

Take the Reins

If one week of riding isn’t enough, come 

to camp for two weeks to improve 

your riding skills. Horseback riders of 

all experience levels are welcome in 

the ring! Work on horse care, grooming, 

and general knowledge. Earn segments 



Up in the Trees

Spend some time in the trees at 

Birdsong! You will spend your days on 

the low ropes course, the climbing 

wall and high ropes course at Tohi. 

Challenge yourself to try something 

new and have a blast in the process! 

In addition try some geocaching 

in camp as well as out of camp. 

Midnight Madness

Enjoy exciting activities with an 

after-dark twist. Participate in night 

hikes, stargazing, games in the dark,

munchies, and pajama breakfasts. 

Riding Thru History

Giddyup! Girls in this program will go 

to Gettysburg to ride the battlefield, 

explore historic Gettysburg, and take 

a ghost tour! While at camp take part 

in the riding program, shoot archery, 

swim and more. There is no riding 

prerequisite for this program. 

Wild Water Fun 

July 21-26 


Cost: $420 

Experience the thrill of climbing the 

Iceberg and playing on the Saturn at 

Dutch Springs Aqua Park. Take a trip out 

of camp to kayak and enjoy canoeing 

at Sweet Arrow Lake. This is for the girl 

who can’t get enough of the water. 

Club Wood Haven 



Cost: $355 

It’s summertime, and the living is 

easy. Relax and enjoy swimming, yoga, 

natural cosmetic remedies, aerobics, 

and more. Get the latest scoop on 

how to take care of your body and 

mind, then tour a beauty school 

and get a professional manicure. 

Give each other facials, manicures, 

and pedicures. Nutrition and hair 

care will all be part of the fun. 

Hiking Through History 



Cost: $410 

Enjoy hiking and history as you visit two 

of Pennsylvania’s national parks. Take 

a one-day visit to Valley Forge in 

preparation for your two-night visit to 

Gettysburg. You’ll spend time exploring 

and hiking the battlefield. Take some 

time to explore historic Gettysburg 

and take part in a ghost tour! 

Iron Chef 



Cost: $330 

Try your hand at competitive cooking! 

This week, work as a team to create a 

dish for the judges that uses a secret 

ingredient. Spend the first part of the 

week getting ready for the cooking 

battle; you’ll learn how food is prepared, 

practice recipes, and put together your 

own cookbook so you can recreate 

your masterpieces at home. Visit a 

restaurant and talk with a professional 

about the culinary business. 

2-Extreme 

August 4-9

If you’re looking for an adventure, sign 

up for this extreme week of high ropes, 

low ropes, climbing, rappelling and 

boating. Learn a variety of martial 

arts techniques and tactics from a 

professional instructor, and enjoy a 

one-night trip out of camp! 

Extreme Equestrian

Experienced riders can join this group 

and refine their riding skills for one 

extreme week of riding. When you are 

not at the barn, you will participate in 

standard camp activities.

Want to try something new? Come join 

us for a mystery adventure outside 

of camp! Where you are going is the 

mystery* (but we will tell you that you’ll 

spend two days out of camp). Closer
