EPWORTH CO-EDUCATIONAL 

PRE-PRIMARY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL 

The Epworth Pre-Primary / Primary family reflects both 

formally and informally on the school’s value to the boys 

and girls that it serves, on a regular basis. Our 

educationally excellent, rich, exciting and inspiring 

programme features in all reviews. This is facilitated by 

a highly dedicated staff team, supported by a loyal and 

appreciative parent community and relished and 

invested in by our amazingly committed children. 

Achievement of curriculum highs, the celebration of 

visual art, drama, music, sport and the environment, 

and spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and emotional 

well-being feature prominently within the reality of 

these review exercises. 

Strategic Planning is a natural part of the endeavour at 

Epworth to ensure that what is offered educationally 

is relevant and of a high standard within an everchanging 

world. Included in the process, of a recent 

application in this regard, was confirming our 

“uniqueness” within the phases of education that we 

serve. The following statement is a summary of the 

findings: 

“Epworth Pre-Primary / Primary is a co-educational 

Christian school with a Methodist ethos, that celebrates 

unity in diversity. 

We provide an exciting curriculum that fosters the 

development of happy, confident and effective boys 

and girls. 

Our environment is happy, caring and nurturing, 

allowing each child to reach their full potential in order 

to become disciplined, well-balanced, and effective 

members of society. We strive to enhance children’s 

self-esteem, develop moral values and respect for self 

and others”. 

The achievement of the above on an on-going basis 

allows us to continue making the following statements

Primary Staff | 

STAFF NEWS 

Epworth Pre-Primary / Primary 

School is blessed with a highly 

professional, committed and 

stable staff team. The healthy 

collegiality and friendship that 

is at the heart of this group, 

makes saying farewell to any 

member especially sad. 

However, one also makes use 

of the opportunity to reflect 

on, and celebrate, the 

contribution of the team 

member concerned. 

Farewell 

Dallas Elliott, who was in her 

30 th year of teaching at 

Epworth Primary, retired at 

the end of the second term. 

One cannot measure what she 

has meant to all the children, 

many now well into 

adulthood, who have passed 

through her capable hands, as a class and I.T. teacher, 

over the years. 

Karen Maher is leaving us at the end of the year in order, 

in her words, to have “a lifestyle change” and “full-time 

family time”. We are indeed celebrating the excellence 

Mrs Elliott’s Special Farewell Assembly 

of what she has offered, both as 

a teacher and H.O.D. 

Kathy Fennell reaches the 

retirement date associated with 

her Management position at 

Epworth at the end of this year 

which has resulted in a 

celebration and appreciation of 

her excellent leadership role as 

H.O.D. of the Foundation Phase. 

Kathy will, I am pleased to add, 

continue as a class teacher at 

Epworth in 2010. 

Congratulations 

We are very pleased to confirm 

that the Head of the Pre-Primary 

Department and the Foundation 

Phase Head of Department 

positions have been filled 

internally by Debbie Burt and 

Julie Brown respectively. This 

is very positive in two respects: confirming that we have 

highly capable, talented and experienced staff that 

form our teaching team, and that these internal 

appointments will allow for the natural continuity and 

enhancement of the high standard and uniqueness of 

our educational programme and leadership approach.
