the Campania Awards
On 6 July, Grimaldi Compagnia di Navigazione S.p.A., the Group’s parent
company received the Campania Award as the entity which created most
value in 2008 in the Campania Region. The award ceremony was held during
a charity dinner in favour of the victims of the earthquake in L’Aquila, Italy. The
award was received by Guido Grimaldi (on the left), son of Emanuele Grimaldi and
commercial manager of the Short Sea shipping Department in Naples, and by his
cousin Guido Grimaldi (on the right), son of Gianluca Grimaldi.

Notable Shipments
by ACL
• Two double-decker
buses were transported
from Liverpool, England
to Halifax aboard
the Atlantic Compass.
Each bus weighed 17
tonnes and measured
12.80 long x 2.55 wide x
4.27 high metres. Final
receiver was Ontario’s
interregional public transit system, linking Toronto with
the surrounding regions of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
• A special exhibition truck sailed from Hamburg to Baltimore
onboard one of ACL’s ro-ro/containerships to tour
the East Coast of the US. The Rolling Reinhausen is 80
square metres of space aimed at demonstrating the technologies
of the power transformer components.
• A 40-metre boat mast lashed and secured onto a specially
designed trailer sailed from Baltimore to Liverpool.
• A satellite stacker was transported from Baltimore to
Hamburg. Upon arrival in Germany, the 30-metre long
transport-ready portable bulk material handling conveyor
was quickly processed and driven to Estonia for delivery
at a local mining facility.
ACL making Hollywood
appearance
Atlantic Container Line was called to the Director’s Chair when it recently
phased out and sold a series of its ACLU 40’ dry-van containers.
In Albany (NY), one retired container is on the set as a movie prop
for Columbia Pictures political thriller, “Salt”, starring Angelina Jolie. While,
the ACLU series are Indian red, this prop was painted blue for set design
purposes. In an effort to continuously improve its equipment fleet, ACL
containers are phased out after ten years of service.

has been elected president of
ECG, the Association of European
Finished Vehicle Logistics, for the
next two years. Established in 1997
in Brussels, ECG represents more
than 2/3rds of the European Finished
Vehicles Logistics industry.
ECG Members operate in the field of
outbound logistics for the Automotive
sector, including quality control
at the end of the assembly line, storage in special compounds,
transport in all modalities – rail, road and sea – de-waxing Pre-
Delivery Inspections (PDI), customising, workshop activities and
the refurbishing of former fleet vehicles ECG has 90 members
from 24 countries, which last year recorded an aggregated turnover
in excess of 15 billion euros while generating an indirect
turnover of around 40 billion euros. Members handle about 40
million cars per year with over 64,000 direct employees and up
to 162,000 indirect people involved operating 20,000 trucks,
20,000 rail wagons, about 337 ships; 42 river barges; 462 compounds;
146 port terminals; more than 58 million square metres
of car parks; about one million square metres of workshops.
