5.1 <strong>offshore</strong> <strong>power</strong> generation<br />
Over the year, the installed <strong>offshore</strong> <strong>wind</strong> <strong>power</strong> capacity of 68.4<br />
GW would generate 247 TWh of electricity.The estimated annual<br />
<strong>offshore</strong> <strong>wind</strong> electricity generation per country is shown in Table 4,<br />
alongside the total electricity consumption in 2006 <strong>for</strong> comparison.<br />
The capacity factor in Table 3 represents the fraction of time<br />
during which the installed <strong>wind</strong> farms would have generated the<br />
same amount of energy when always running at full <strong>power</strong>.The total<br />
aggregated capacity factor of the <strong>offshore</strong> <strong>wind</strong> <strong>power</strong> scenario in<br />
the present study is equal to 41.2%. For comparison: the<br />
aggregated capacity factor of the present installed <strong>wind</strong> <strong>power</strong><br />
capacity in Europe (of which the major part is onshore) is 23%.<br />
