Kincumber Creek Evaluation and Monitoring Project, Stage 1, 2004 Executive Summary Kincumber Creek remains a stream in stress. However, Stage 1 results have demonstrated that the community values the creek, especially for its ecological value, and support expenditure of resources for rehabilitation. Despite water quality issues, currently being addressed by Council-convened committee, ecological values have been enhanced by a mixture of on-ground techniques involving though not relying on community volunteer labour. The assets that the creek displays include a diversity of structurally complete vegetation communities, a wildlife corridor and habitat for in excess of 140 bird species and other fauna. Challenges to the success of the project lie in the very nature of the stream’s demise, that is human intervention. Typically, those zones most impacted by human development were the least resilient and displayed the greatest challenges. The stream will continue to erode with the current stormwater input and speedboat use. It is only with positive human intervention that the creek will improve. Much information has been gained and partnerships developed which will provide momentum and success to ongoing stages of the project. CCCEN Page 4
