Biodiversity Strategy - Gosford City Council - NSW Government

As plants absorb carbon dioxide it is essential that plants are conserved and opportunities taken
to revegetate land. According to the Draft Central Coast Regional Strategy, most future growth
will occur around Gosford City Centre and on the Peninsula because the urban footprint has
been set. This concentration of urban development in the existing urban footprint assists in
biodiversity conservation and management by minimising disturbance to the natural vegetated
areas.
Although Council by maintaining its urban development in the existing urban areas is a
significant step towards addressing some aspects of Climate Change the introduction of further
population within our local government area will result in the consumption of more resources
and increased pressure on natural resources. Consequently Council needs to be proactive in
all aspects and activities that contribute to climate change.
