Principal’s Report
Interim reports go out today for all secondary students and parents will find
in their child’s report a reminder that teachers would like to speak to them if the
teacher has requested an interview. Occasionally interim reports have not reached
home and this year we will be following up with phone calls if parents do not respond
to the requested interview just to ensure that parents are aware of any concerns
with their child’s progress. We look forward to a good attendance at these
interviews which can be the most effective with so much time in the year left to
make some changes. Please remember that older students – grade 5 and above,
would benefit from also attending the interview. We have found that the clearer the
communication between parents, teachers and students, the more effective the improvements.
Parent teacher interviews will be next Tuesday afternoon.
The school has just revised its Homework Policy and after it has passed
through School Council on the first day next term, we will be sending this policy
home for parents and students. Homework is sometimes a contentious issue but, as
a staff, we believe we have come up with fair and reasonable suggested homework
guidelines and regime.
Well done to Sam Crick and Melissa Maybery on their performances yesterday
in Melbourne at the Western Zone Championships. Great swims by both
girls in their individual events with Sam Crick breaking her own record time and
finishing in third place.
Today parent of grade 5 and 6 students will have received a letter about an
information night next Wednesday regarding the new netbooks initiative that we
are involved in this year. This programme allows students in grades 5 and 6 to
lease laptops from the school for use at school and at home. Our school is one of
the few schools that has extended the programme to grade 6 and we have used our
own funding to provide this opportunity to all students in our composite class. We
see great opportunities for student learning with this pilot project and I am sure that
families will see an increase in engagement in school activities.
Students in years 7, 8 and 9 had the opportunity to meet police working in
the Horsham Sexual Offence and Child Abuse (SOCA) section of the Department
today. They visit the school every year to inform students of what role they play in
ensuring the safety of young people in the region.
Over the holidays we are going to organise some more painting around the
school and this time the girls and boys toilets are getting a makeover. Currently the
students are voting on the colour schemes they would like.
Tomorrow is dress up as your favourite teacher day and I imagine a number
of parent wardrobes are being raided as we speak. Gold coin donations will go towards
the funding of our SRC sponsor child. On the last day of school, the primary
school students and 8 / 9 Advance students are going to be involved in some activity
demonstrations down the main street at the Hall in conjunction with the Health
Centre. There will also be a competition for the best Easter bonnet on the day. Activities
will start after recess and continue through until lunchtime. More information
next week.
