Western-European markets
The first half of 2009 was marked by a sharp decline in sales of products for the home in the majority of
our key markets. Although the situation gradually improved in the second half of the year, the number
of appliances sold in Western European markets in 2009 nevertheless dropped 5.7 percent. Despite
the unfavourable movements, we sold 1.4 percent more appliances than in 2008 and increased our
market share to 2.38 percent.
The most important Western-European markets of the Household Appliances Division are: German,
Austrian, Scandinavian and French markets.
In Germany the sale increased by 12.8 % along with the general stagnation of the market, so that our
market share increased by a half of a percentage point, i.e. to 4.3 %. The most important event for the
Gorenje Group in the market mentioned occurred on 9 June 2009 when our longstanding partner
declared bankruptcy and we lost that specialist in catalogue sale of our products. Sales were therefore
redirected and strengthened through other distribution channels.
In 2009 the Austrian market resisted the crisis well and grew by 10.1 %. The Gorenje Group increased
the sales by 15.3 % and our market share increased to 8.2 % (by 0.4 %).
