KISS AND RIDE DIRECTIONS
The Chesterbrook Residences Assisted Living has graciously agreed to allow us to use their driveway
to improve our traffic flow. We have been given a ½ hour in the Am and ½ hour in the PM to use
their driveway. Please adhere to the following rules so we may be able to continue using the
driveway of The Chesterbrook Residences Assisted Living.
AM Kiss and Ride Rules
Before 7:20AM – Student drop off will be at the front of Longfellow School.
Between 7:20 AM – 7:50AM –
Enter in the main driveway of Longfellow School and turn left to head to the rear of the
school.
Yield to any cars or buses that might be exiting the front of the school.
Continue towards the back of the school and move up to the furthest point along the curb.
The Farthest end point for drop off is the end of the sidewalk just down from entry door #4
(It will be marked with a sign).
Students may enter the building through door # 2, # 3 or # 4.
All students must remain outside until 7:25 unless there is inclement weather or the Principal
has determined that students may enter. If allowed in the building students must wait in the
hall outside the Cafeteria until 7:25.
After Drop Off - Kiss & Ride drivers shall proceed towards the basketball court. Turn left onto the
exit and another left to head towards the front to the exit. Please maintain the posted 15 MPH
speed limit and yield to all pedestrians. Continue straight and merge onto the front loop where
you must stay to the left.
We do not have permission to use the driveway to the right (not owned by Chesterbrook Assisted
Living).
Drivers exit either right or left onto Westmoreland Street at this time. If left turn traffic becomes a
problem left turn capability will be reconsidered. Do not use Hopewood Drive as a cut through. It is
private property and cannot be used unless you have permission to use that road.
After 7:50 AM – Student drop off will be at the front of the building as has been in the past.
School buses have the right away in the parking lot so please let them pass in front of you.
There is to be no dropping or picking up on the shoulder of the road or in the turn lane in front of
2030 Westmoreland St. This is against the law and it is dangerous for students and drivers.
PM Kiss and Ride Rules (2:40)
The 2:40 PM pickup is towards the rear of the building (the same as the morning drop off). Cars
may begin lining up in Kiss & Ride at 2:30 PM. Pull all the way to the end of the curb so other cars
may pull in behind. When exiting, please follow the Exit directions for the AM Kiss & ride. The Kiss &
Ride ends at 3:10 PM. If you have not arrived by then please pick your student up in the front or in
the After School Program. Pick up of students on the road is not permitted. Stopping in the turn
lane along Westmoreland will not be allowed.
PM Kiss & Ride (3:50)
The 3:50 PM pickup - Please line up out front in the old Kiss & Ride Lane. Late buses have the right
of way.
Do Not use the Kiss & Ride exit to the rear of the building. This gate will be closed.

WOUNDED WARRIOR 5K RACE
Since 2003, thousands of young men and women have been wounded in the line of duty. After
discharge from inpatient treatment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, they
continue on active duty while going through a very thorough evaluation period. At this point in
their recovery, many wounded warriors seek housing which is suited to their rehabilitation needs.
The Navy Marine Coast Guard Residence Foundation (NMCGRF) is investing in our wounded
warriors by providing handicapped accessible apartments that are designed to support them
through their transitional period in a wonderful McLean, Virginia location.
In 2012 NMCGRF, which operates Vinson Hall Retirement Community in McLean VA, merged their
Run With the Warriors 5K, with co-host CENTURY 21‘s (McLean, VA) McLean 5k, to become the:
McLean 5K Run with the Warriors.
All proceeds from the McLean 5K Run with the Warriors will be used for Wounded Warrior
Transitional Housing at Vinson Hall. To register, sponsor, contribute or for more information:
RACE TO NOWHERE
OCTOBER 10, 2013
7 P.M.
MCLEAN HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM
McLean HS PTSA will host a screening of "Race to Nowhere" on Thursday, October 10 th from 7:00
to 9:00 P.M. Admission is free.
"Race to Nowhere" is a film that calls us to challenge current thinking about how we prepare our
children for success. “Race to Nowhere” brings communities together to spark dialogue and
galvanize change in America’s schools.
Featuring the heartbreaking stories of students across the country who have been pushed to the
brink by over-scheduling, over-testing and the relentless pressure to achieve, “Race to Nowhere”
points to a silent epidemic in our schools. Through the testimony of educators, parents and
education experts, it reveals an education system in which cheating has become commonplace;
students have become disengaged; stress-related illness, depression and burnout are rampant; and
young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.
