I. Cells are obovoid in profile, broadened in front,
narrowed and rounded in back; an terior .end is obliquely
truncated with slight indentation. Rear view is elongatedly
obovoid, regularly rounded in front and in back. Measure-
-ments: 10-13x 5-8J4 . . . . . . . . . . Rh. lacustris 1.
2. Cells are slightly ovoid in profile, wider in
back than in front, with the anterior end trun+ca#;cd and
slightly emarginated. In the rear view, they are slightly
ovoid or elongatedly elliptical. Chromatophore is frequently
lobate. Measurements: 15-20 x 8-10 JrC ,... t?h. rubra 3.
Cells are fusifor;n in profile, about equally
narrowed and cuspidâte on both ends; dorsal side is highly
arched, while the ventral side is more slightly arched.
Anterior end with no, or only very slight,emargination.
Rear view is similarly fusiform, with the anterior half of
the cell somewhat broader than the posterior. Measurements:
