ottom near the site of addition .- It was observed that small rivers and streams were not immediately able-to carry increased sediment supply derived from natural and technological disturbances in their watersheds . We feel that careful technological activities in this region will not greatly affect sediment transport regimes of larger rivers . We strongly propose . that small experimental research watersheds be established in representative areas within, and outside of proposed development routes in the Mackenzie Valley and Northern Yukon . These experimental research watershed's should be carefully maintained to measure the effects of technological activities on :important components -of the watershed ecosystem, to experimentally test many hypotheses concerning the interaction of controlled terrain disturbance and watershed- response, and to provide undisturbed control for future reference purposes . We recommend that the present network of discharge, suspended ., sediment, and meteorological stations be expanded,' especially to - inc lude more small watersheds in a variety of regions within the Mackenzie Valley and . northern Yukon .,-
