OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KASEY CARRIER, NEW MEXICO
Senior, RB, Pearland, Texas/Pearland HS
• Ran for an FBS-leading 291 yards on a careerhigh
41 attempts (7.9 yards per carry) and
scored four touchdowns to guide New Mexico to
a 42-35 overtime victory at UTEP.
• Scored what proved to be the game-winning
touchdown on a 21-yard run on the Lobos’ first
overtime possession.
• Carrier’s 291 rushing yards set a new MW
record for most by a senior in a single game,
surpassing the previous mark of 285, shared
by Colorado State’s Gartrell Johnson (Dec. 20,
2008 vs. Fresno State) and San Diego State’s
Larry Ned (Oct. 6, 2001 vs. Eastern Illinois).
The 291-yard performance also ranks second
behind Carrier’s own MW single-game record of
338, set Oct. 20, 2012 at Air Force.
• Carrier’s 41 carries against the Miners ties
former Lobo Rodney Ferguson for second-most
rushing attempts in a single game in MW history
(Oct. 25, 2007 vs. Air Force).
• The win at UTEP ended New Mexico’s sevengame
slide and a string of 15 consecutive losses
in the state of Texas.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
EDDIE YARBROUGH
Sophomore, DE, Aurora, Colo./Grandview HS
• Recorded nine tackles, 3.0 sacks and 3.5
tackles for loss, while also recovering a fumble
and breaking up one pass in Wyoming’s 42-10
home win over Idaho.
• His fumble recovery came on the final Idaho
possession of the first quarter and led to
Wyoming’s first touchdown of the game on the
ensuing series.
• The pass breakup came on Idaho’s final
possession of the first half on a third-and-1 for
the Vandals. Yarbrough’s PBU forced fourth
down and Idaho’s series ended with a missed
41-yard field goal.
• Yarbrough’s 3.0 sacks were for losses of 28 total
yards (15, five and eight yards).
• He helped lead a Wyoming defense that held
Idaho only 10 points, all scored in the fourth
quarter.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ISAIAH BURSE, FRESNO STATE
Senior, WR/PR, Modesto, Calif./Modesto Christian HS
• Tied school and Mountain West records by
returning two punts for touchdowns in Fresno
State’s 41-25 win over Cal Poly.
• Burse’s first punt return for a score was a
61-yarder in the first quarter. He added a
58-yard punt return for a TD with 30 seconds
remaining in the first half. He joined Steve
Smith from Utah in 1999 and Dallas Davis from
Colorado State, also in 1999, as the only other
players in Mountain West history to return two
punts for touchdowns in the same game.
• For the game, Burse had three punt returns for
130 yards and 173 all-purpose yards in the win.
• He also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass in the
first minute of the second quarter and finished
with four receptions for 43 yards.
