Holdenhurst Village. In addition Wood
its hay barns and farm vehicles.
Conservation Area
10.20 The original conservation area of
Holdenhurst Village East, covering
the land which lay within the Borough
of Bournemouth, was designated in
June of 1974. The small part of the
village which lies within the Borough
of Christchurch was designated as
a separate Holdenhurst Village East
Conservation Area in November of
1974. This small area to the north
east corner of the village remains
designated by that Authority and is
controlled by them.
10.23 Wood Farm lies at the end of Church
Lane which narrows to a single track
road. The farmhouse, its attached barn
and an additional barn all date from
the eighteenth century. The farmhouse
is of red brick with a red clay tiled roof
(formerly thatched). The farmhouse
has attractive early nineteenth century
casement windows with leadwork and
there is a gabled porch to one end. An
attached barn forms an ‘L’ shape with
the farmhouse. Included in the local
listing is also a detached eighteenth
century barn with large timber doors
with cladding set above above a brick
plinth and a corrugated roof over.
10.24 As well as being protected by
conservation area status Christchurch
Council has also identified Wood
Farmhouse, its attached barn and the
adjacent barn at the farm as buildings
of local interest.
10.21 This has resulted in a slightly unusual
situation in that the Conservation Area
straddles more than one authority.
There is therefore a need to ensure
that joint working occurs between
the Boroughs of Bournemouth and
Christchurch particularly in relation
to the policy and management of
the area around Wood Farm. This
will ensure that any future decisions
and developments affecting the
Conservation Area in either borough
do not inadvertently compromise the
integrity of the other.
10.22 Although Wood Farm is in a
Christchurch controlled conservation
area, the buildings clearly make
