Agenda Item Discussion Points Actions and by when 1. 1.1 Cecil Barker, John Scott, Ralph Britten, Len Stephens, and Christine Berle did not attend the meeting. 1.2 Hugh Neguyn forwarded an apology. 1.3 CC introduced herself to the CCC as new Community Relations Officer 2. 2.1 No issue arose from previous minutes 2.2 Minutes passed without amendment. 3 3. 3.1 Yennora Overview NS gave an overview of the site impact in terms of employment, wages, recycling, site services and community investment AL requested a copy of this information to be sent MM requested information around rate of recycling 4 4. 4.1 Environmental Performance 2011 YTD: 85% Reduction in legal non-compliances One spill over 20L caused by an outside truck which SC was acted upon responsibly by Alcoa 4.2 Emissions to Air (RF3): Furnace Engineering are providing a control loop that adds oxygen to the furnace to combust any organic contamination in the charge, this will reduce our VOCs and complete combustion in the furnace barrel rather than the flue. Furnace engineering has obtained Gas Authority approvals and will work on this project in November 2011 4.3 Emissions to Air (RF3): Dioxin & Furan Alcoa continues to drive down contamination in scrap supply.Q3 test results well within allowable limits. Continued actions to reduce VOC emission which is a pre-cursor for dioxin formation 4.4 Emissions to Air (RF3): Hydrogen Chrloride DA submitted to change licence limit to equal to regulation limit. Holroyd Council has received peer review report on air assessment. Alcoa requested to respond to two items raised in peer review. Alcoa has agreed to pay consultation fees. Project to complete combustion in the barrel itself would drop the stack temperature and improve reaction between lime and HCl. 2
Agenda Item Discussion Points Actions and by when 2 5.. 4.5 Environmental Performance 2011 YTD: No environmental non-compliances in Q3 4.6 Enegry & Water Energy savings action plan review to be submitted to OEH in August/September. Project initiated to model site energy usage working with University of New South Wales. 4.7 Community Complaints 2010: 7 2011 YTD: 6 3 since previous meeting. Resident complained of an odour near Station St, Investigated odour sources north of resident. 4.8 NOA Coolant Introduction of a new Coolant on the Hotline Trialled in March 2011, which became permanent on the Hotline shortly after and then on the Warm Mill in October. 4.9 Salt cake recycling process Alreco is advising us that they would be commencing to process salt cake at a higher rate than production in Q4 2011. When Alreco stocks of semi-processed salt cake start reducing, Yennora can ship stored salt cake. This will be closely monitored by Victorian EPA. Alreco has sourced an export opportunity for non metallic remainder after processing salt cake and extracting aluminium and salt from the salt cake. This will help achieve ZERO to landfill in the future. 0 5. 5. 1 Community Iniatitives 1 6. 6.1 Meeting Frequency CC gave an overview of Yennora Family Open Day and Employee volunteer events Greening Australia presented plan to plant 6000 ground cover plants. ALL agreed project needs to be localised and potentially involve schools and local community Alcoa will submit a development application to Holroyd Council to vary the CCC meeting frequency from a bimonthly requirement to a quarterly requirement.This will line up with internal environmental metrics reporting frequency and quarterly emission testing frequency.Additional meetings will be held to discuss 3
