From: To: Subject: Date: Wallace, Laurel T., NMDOT Hyre, Jennifer, NMDOT; CR clearance for NM 532 curve corrections Monday, October 29, 2012 11:31:00 AM Jennifer: Please consider the District 2 project on NM 532, for curve corrections in three locations (between mileposts 11.86 and 11.95 [Last Curve], 8.21 and 8.37 [Axle Bend Curve], and 6.89 and 7.05 [No Doubt Curve] ), Lincoln County, New Mexico [NMDOT Project CN 2101140], to be cleared for cultural resource issues. The project scope for CN 2101140 includes modifying the curve geometry, installing rock wall barriers to stabilize eroding slopes post-fire, replacing guard rails, and adding signage and pull-outs. The project is federally funded and located on NMDOT easement crossing USFS Lincoln National Forest lands. The cultural resource survey (A Cultural Resources Survey for NM 532 Curve Correction and Slope Stabilization, Lincoln County, New Mexico, by SWCA Environmental Consultants, SWCA Cultural Resources Report No. 12-438) identified no resources within the project APE. The Lincoln National Forest/Smokey Bear Ranger District archaeologist has been contacted, and they have no concerns with this project [please see attached]. Tribal consultation was sent by NMDOT staff on October 29, 2012 to all Lincoln County related tribal interest groups. It is anticipated that no concerns will expressed, since this project is related to improvements and repairs needed after a recent forest fire. Under our present Programmatic Agreement with the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division, effective December 30, 2010, the NMDOT may proceed with a “no historic properties affected” undertaking following approval by the NMDOT cultural resources manager/staff.
