At the Hilton Lodge borrow pit [257 3 151 excavated for road embankment fill, the Gunthorpe<br />

Formation was exposed beneath the terrace deposits of the Etwall Sand and Gravel. At the east<br />

side of the excavation the beds had a dip of about 4" to the south. The section here showed:<br />

At the eastern side of the borrow pit [2560 31531 another section in the Gunthorpe Formation<br />

was visible, this had a dip of about 11 O to the south-west and exposed:<br />
