commercial, three Islamic and the specialized Qatar Development Bank. In addition,
two Arab and five foreign banks are present in Qatar. The Qatar Financial Centre is
a financial and business centre set up by the Government of Qatar in 2005 and
located in Doha to demonstrate Qatar as an attractive environment for a wide range
of financial services in the Gulf region. . By October 2008 a total of 96 regional and
international financial services institutions and major transnational corporations held
Qatar Financial Centre licenses to participate in the developing market for financial
services in Qatar and elsewhere in the region.
