Museo Casa del Tejido Antiguo
"Manos Mágicas" (9am - 5pm)
Visit and demonstration of Mayan ancestral techniques.
Permanent demonstration of handicraft and ancestral techniques as well as the cultural event "Manos
Mágicas", a weaving competition between several weavers of many rural regions of Guatemala. The Museo
Casa del Tejido Antiguo offers to its visitors the opportunity to admire the huge variety, the originality and the
beauty of Guatemalan handicraft, thanks to the permanent exhibition of traditional Mayan costumes of our
country.
Ms Alida Pérez Santos, foundator of the museum and the craftmen, perfectly realized an exhibition of the art
to weave. Visitors will know everything about this art thanks to different types of looms such as the foot
powered loom for example, and to available information about them.
The Museo Casa del Tejido Antiguo, was inaugurated on 23 March, 1998 and has a gallery specially reserved to
the exhibition of length from different regions of Guatemala. Our goal is to give the opportunity to visitors to
discover the quality and cultural diversity of the Mayan culture thanks to the fabrics elaborated with the telar
de cintura (special loom in which the weaver tighten threads - tied to his waist - thanks to his weight).
