Shipping/Restrictions/Regulations for Bacteria and Fungi Cultures and Sets:
Ward’s Science adheres to the Biosafety Guidelines for Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories, as
published by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Based on these guidelines, Ward’s will not ship bacteria
or fungi cultures to individuals.
Pathogens: Human or animal pathogens will only be shipped to colleges, universities, accredited industrial, municipal,
or government laboratories. Orders for pathogens must be made on institutional purchase orders and must include
the name of the recipient. We may verify orders prior to shipment and we reserve the right to refuse shipment. The
Department of Transportation classifies all pathogens as hazardous materials, requiring an additional $30 charge for
shipping. Organisms designated by the Canadian government as pathogens are subject to a $30 shipping charge
in Canada.
Blood Agar and Blood Products: Any media containing blood can only be shipped to colleges, universities or
accredited labs.
Plant Pathogens: The U.S. Department of Agriculture requires permits for the shipment of plant pathogens to all 50
states. Call for a permit application. A completed application must be sent to to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Processing of your application by the USDA takes 4–6 weeks.
Canadian Customers: CFIA and PHAC regulations require customers to submit a completed inspection checklist
