Ward’s Clinical Diagnosis of
Diabetes Using Simulated Blood
and Urine Lab Activity
Safely Study the Causes of a Common Medical Condition
One out of every 17 people in the U.S. is, or will become, diabetic in their
lifetime. In this activity, students learn about the relationship between blood
sugar and diabetes. They become aware of the symptoms, and various treatment
of several types of diabetes. Students review several case studies and
then analyze the Ward’s Simulated Blood and Ward’s Simulated Urine samples
of these “patients,” looking for the characteristics of diabetes. After making
determinations, students then suggest a treatment. The activity includes
enough materials for six setups, a teacher’s guide, and student copymaster.
Ward’s Simulated Disease
Transmission Lab Activity
Find Out How a Disease Travels from Person to Person
This lab activity is a demonstration of a simulated disease-causing organism
being transmitted from one person to another. After the simulation, students
try to identify the original source of the infection in the closed class population
and then determine the transmission route of the disease. You will get enough
materials for 30 students, a teacher’s guide, and student copymaster.
Ward’s Human Genome
Poster, 2nd ed.
Display Findings from the Human Genome Project
Over 400 genetic diseases and over 1,000 non-disease traits have been
mapped by the Human Genome Project team. Each disease or trait is
listed alphabetically, and detailed illustrations of all 23 human chromosomes
are also provided. Size: 31" x 43".
Ward’s Cholesterol Determination of
Simulated Blood Lab Activity
Who’s at Risk of Cardiac Attack?
Using a simple procedure to determine a cholesterol level plus five different
samples of Ward's Simulated Blood, your class learns about the
relationship between cholesterol and cardiac disease in complete safety.
Using test strips, students measure the cholesterol levels of five “individuals”
before and after a cholesterol reduction program. From these results,
students will see the importance of HDL and LDL cholesterol and their
relationship to diet. The kit contains all materials necessary for six setups, a
teacher’s guide, and student copymaster.
