OCP for on-chip communication • Standard => not have to repeatedly define, verify, document, support proprietary interface protocols • Reusable IP cores • Clearly delineated design boundaries • Simplifies system verification and testing • Boundary can be observed, controlled, validated • Optimized die area • Any on-chip interconnect can be interfaced to OCP: • Dedicated p2p communication (eg, pipelined signal processing applications – video encoding) • Simple slave-only applications (eg, slow peripheral interfaces) • High-performance, latency sensitive, multi-threaded applications
