Welcome
One of the beauties of being a biologist in the
21st century is that we still know so little about
so much. The honours program in the School of
Biological Sciences is your chance to become
involved in unravelling the mysteries of life.
Your honours year is more than simply the fourth year of an
undergraduate degree. In undertaking a research project under
the supervision of world-class biologists, you will have the
opportunity to develop skills and ways of thinking that mark
the start of your journey into a world of dynamic and exciting
careers.
The research-intensive program will challenge you and
expose you to the highs (and lows) of taking ownership of
groundbreaking research. Honours students are integrated
into the broader research community throughout the program;
many students ultimately present their work at international
conferences and publish it in prestigious journals.
This booklet outlines some of the opportunities that are
available for prospective honours students. Many of the ideas
listed here are simply that; ideas. We encourage you to speak
to prospective supervisors about their research, their research
groups and where the projects may take you.
