(e.g. préposition, particule, adverbe).

Le mouvement est exprimé par le verbe.
La manière n’est pas incorporée au verbe
mais sera exprimée de façon
« périphérique » (e.g. syntagme
prépositionnel, gérondifs).
La manière est souvent omise, en
particulier dans le cadre d’une traduction.
Mary traversa la rivière à la nage
Il envoya la balle au loin d’un coup de pied

S-languages “tend toward greater specification
of manner, probably because the lexicon
provides a large collection of verbs that
conflate manner with whinge of location, often
conflating cause as well.” (Berman & Slobin)
V-languages “are less elaborate in this
regard, but are often more elaborate in
description of location of protagonists and
objects and of endstates in motion.”
