Additional specimen examined: Brazil. Minas Gerais: Rio Novo, 1889 (sterile), Arm~jo 5 (RB).<br />

<strong>Beilschmiedia</strong> taubertiana has opposite leaves and coarse ramification as all the<br />

Brazilian <strong>Beilschmiedia</strong> <strong>species</strong> do. But this <strong>species</strong> is easily distinguished fron1 the other<br />

Brazilian <strong>species</strong> by the erect, long straight pubescence on the terminal buds and twigs, and<br />

by the lower leaf surfaces sparsely pubescent with same kind <strong>of</strong> indument.<br />

Tree, to 40 m tall. Terminal buds pubescent with appressed straight hairs. Twigs<br />

terete, slightly angular when young, pubescent with appressed straight hairs, less densely<br />

when older. Leaves alternate; petioles (0.5) 1-4.2 em long, flat to canaliculate above,<br />

glabrous or pubescent with appressed straight hairs, concolorous with twigs; blades<br />

coriaceous to fim1ly chartaceous, ovate to broad elliptic, rarely broad oblanceolate, (5) 8-20<br />
