FMG Areas<br />
WCC shipped relief goods to the Christian Council of Nigeria which cooperated<br />
with other voluntary agencies atxi ICRC in forwarding and distributing. On<br />
several occasions, WCC sent medicines and medical equipment by chartered e i ~<br />
craft to Lagos to supply four teams work- in t11e distressed areas under<br />
Federal contml. DICAFMS assisted the Christian Council of Nigeria in the<br />
staffing of six medical relief teams sponsored by National ICA agencies to<br />
work under the ICRC. These teams worked in South East and East Central<br />
States at Anua, Enugu, and Abak near Uyo as part of the total ICRC relief<br />
operations. Each team had a doctor, several nurses, a supply officer, and<br />
a maintenance man. By mid-February , 1969, two of the teams had returned to<br />
Denmark and to Norway, and changes had been mde in the number and assignments<br />
of personnel in the International and American (CWS) teams. The<br />
Australian and British Teams continued with their assignments in Enugu and<br />
Abak.<br />

Protestant churches fran many countries contributed their aid thmugh the<br />
World Council of Churches. Value of the goods sent (over $4 million) has<br />
been included in donations reported by specific countries and is treated<br />
in the "Other Nations" section of this report. WCC is, therefore, not<br />
credited here for these donated goods in order to avoid duplication.<br />

Scandinavian organizations and churches form "Nordchurchaid" for the<br />
purpose of airlifting supplies to Riafra. Its members consisted of<br />
Folkekirkens N w aelp of Denmark, Kirkens Nodhjelp of Norway, Lutherbjalpen<br />
of Sweden, and Kyrkans Ulandsbjalp of Finlarid. Nordchurchaid began its<br />
airlift operations at Sao Tome on August 26, 1968, in ccoperation with the<br />
Catholic and Protestant airlift already In opemtion. With donated funds<br />
from Scandinavian churches and organizations, Nordchurchaid siqed a<br />
special charter contract with various air transport canpanles. Planes were<br />
piloted mainly by Nordic crews. By September 30, it had added five planes
