Chapter '11<br />

CONCTUSiON<br />

This study showed that <strong>the</strong> 1O-second Test was significantly <strong>in</strong>fluenced<br />

by subject, day and order effects and also by subject-day <strong>in</strong>teraction<br />

while only subject and day significantly <strong>in</strong>fluenced Thornton's<br />

(1977 ) nDef when both tests were performed by adults. The variability<br />

<strong>in</strong> test scores between subjects, days, and trials was greater for <strong>the</strong><br />

'1O-Second<br />

Test than for Thornton's Test. There was, however, a similar<br />

pattern <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> response <strong>of</strong> subjects to Thornton's and <strong>the</strong> 1O-Second<br />

Test, which might suggest a relationship between <strong>the</strong>se two tests. That<br />

is, decreases <strong>in</strong> test times for Thornton's Test from day-I to day-V was<br />

followed by similar decreases <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 1O-Second Test.<br />

The probabil-ity <strong>of</strong> perceiv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> purk<strong>in</strong>je shift was observed to<br />

<strong>in</strong>crease and decrease at <strong>in</strong>tervals dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> dark adaptation.<br />

This observation appears to suggest that <strong>the</strong>re rvas a fluctuation<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> perception <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> purk<strong>in</strong>je shift. However, <strong>the</strong> periodical<br />

<strong>in</strong>creases and decreases <strong>in</strong> perception did not appear to occur at fixed<br />

<strong>in</strong>tervals as <strong>the</strong> time <strong>in</strong>tervals between each two adjacent peaks were<br />

differen! from each o<strong>the</strong>r. Whe<strong>the</strong>r or not <strong>the</strong> responses <strong>of</strong> subjects !o<br />

<strong>the</strong> purk<strong>in</strong>je shift had a cyclical nature could not be determ<strong>in</strong>ed statistically<br />

due to number <strong>of</strong> repetilions <strong>of</strong> correct and <strong>in</strong>correct responses<br />

Èo <strong>the</strong> purk<strong>in</strong>je shift.<br />
