Carcass measurements and age to market weight The data used for analysis of carcass measuïements and age to merket weight were also collected from the same swine breeding project. A total of 1,455 Managra consisting of 425 barrows and 1,030 gilts which farrowed during the period 1,97l- xo 1977 were included in thís study. The number of pigs contríbuting to the study are listed in Table 5. The gilts that ranked at the bottom half of the whole population in Record of Performance (ROP) index and all the barror\rs \¡/ere marketed when they reached abouË 90 kg live weight. All pigs were killed at the 1 same abbatoir*. The carcasses I^/ere retained for 24 hours before carcass measurements were taken. Carcass traits measured and the procedures used for measurement \,rere as follows: 1) Carcass i^Ieight (one side) The carcass rías accurately split int.o halves and the head and jowls removed.
