4.3.3 Longer Cow Trials<br />
After establishment <strong>of</strong> an optimal BU network <strong>and</strong> optimal set up <strong>of</strong><br />
equipment, <strong>to</strong> test further whether UWB would be suitable for the purpose<br />
<strong>of</strong> oestrous <strong>detection</strong>, cow behaviour was moni<strong>to</strong>red dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>oestrus</strong>.<br />
4.3.3.1 12 Hour Trial<br />
The purpose <strong>of</strong> a 12 hour trial was <strong>to</strong> moni<strong>to</strong>r <strong>cows</strong> early <strong>in</strong> the morn<strong>in</strong>g,<br />
when oestrous behaviour is more commonly displayed, <strong>in</strong> order <strong>to</strong> moni<strong>to</strong>r<br />
actual <strong>oestrus</strong>, mount<strong>in</strong>g activity <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> be mounted by UWB<br />
position<strong>in</strong>g. This would then determ<strong>in</strong>e the suitability <strong>of</strong> UWB for the<br />
purpose <strong>of</strong> oestrous <strong>detection</strong>.<br />
