THE GUNSLINGER
Forgotten Archetypes 1
The Gunslinger
Adventuring Gunman, Duelist,
and Marksman For Hire
The duelist, the greedy highwayman,
the sniper whose deadly touch can bring
down a victim from miles away, all these
are examples of the gunslinger. Though
some choose to romanticize the gunslinger’s
trade, and though some gunslingers
act as champions of the people,
using their guns in the defense of the helpless,
in truth the gunslinger is nothing more
and nothing less than a lightning fast, cold
blooded killer, an artist of death who can
look his opponents in the eye and snuff
their life without blinking.
Adventures: Gunslingers are
vagabonds by nature, traveling from township
to township, always hunting for a new
opponent to test their skills against, the better
to built a fearsome reputation. So the
majority of their adventures are undertaken
for personal gain. As a natural consequence
of their dealing with the more violent elements
of society, gunslingers often find
themselves embroiled in all sorts of
intrigues, and most think nothing of hiring
their skills out to the highest bidder, working
as bodyguards, enforcers, or assassins.
Forgotten Archetypes
Arcane Runes Press’ Forgotten Archetypes series presents new base classes for
use with d20 System fantasy gaming. The new classes presented in each PDF are
intended to fill both mechanical and archetypal gaps in your fantasy gaming world:
while the generic base classes presented in the Player’s Handbook are well suited for
most games, and are designed with an eye for maximum utility, it is a simple fact that
they cannot successfully represent all the archetypal heroes of fantasy.
Each release in the Forgotten Archetypes series presents players and Games
Masters with all the rules they need – including 20 level class progressions, new feats,
sample designs, equipment both magical and mundane, and where appropriate, spells
and magic items - to fill one of these archetypal gaps. The new base classes will not
be suited for every game world, and are not designed to be. Instead, they are intended
to fill thematic gaps in a campaign world, and to open up new vistas of fun for those
role-players who wish to spice up their gaming with new and unusual heroes and villains.
For too long, these archetypes have been relegated to the back shelf of fantasy
gaming. Now, thanks to Arcane Runes Press’ Forgotten Archetypes, these forgotten
heroes will have their day in the sun.
