frontier settings, the second part <strong>of</strong> this thesis strives to demonstrate that there is an underlying manner<br />

<strong>of</strong> perception presenting the thermal, hibernal and distant landscapes. Despite the separation between<br />

different poems <strong>of</strong> similar frontier settings, the repeated manners in which their poet-narrators<br />

apprehend selfsame frontier environments suggests that a relationship exists between the texts that is<br />

not simply one <strong>of</strong> authorship and imagery but also one <strong>of</strong> ways <strong>of</strong> perceiving the frontier itself.<br />

Understanding the intricacies <strong>of</strong> this relationship as its pertains to each distinct frontier setting is the<br />

goal <strong>of</strong> the following chapters.<br />
