Student Spotlight
Gillian Masland
Each week in thzs rolumn, we
Will focus on the work of a stucknt.
It can be a poem, a drawing,
a short story, a picture of a
SCientific experiment or a woodworking
project, a book review.
Gillian Masland, a second
grader at Mwre School, has
written a poem called "I Caught
A Wild Dingo." The 7-112year
old is the daughter of Anne and
Bob Masland of Grosse Pointe
I Caught a Wild
I caught a wild dingo,
He ran upon the Nile
He ran until he could run r.'l
more
And grabbed it by the tall
The tail belonged to a crocodile
The dingo howled with spunk
And started chasing a little
chipmunk
This chipmUlik climbed the old
gumtree
And warned the koala while
the dingo scratched a flea
I made a dJsaster
I took a pIcture
And the dingo ran faster
I asked a red kangaroo what to
do
He said I had to cook him wombat
stew.
I found a fat little wombat and
cooked him up.
And the kangaroo brought me
the dingo pup.
"He's a father of a family," the
'~said, ... ~.
"but'I think he would'be better
off dead."
He sharpened up his nails like
he never had before
And sure enough opened up the
dingo's cage door.
But the kangaroo's nails had
dulled from the mud
The dingo ran out and the cage
So when you go to "Down Under"
And you will see me nding my
