The Thirty-eighth Annual Symposium on Fundamental Cancer Re<br />

ADVANCED IMMUNOLOGY<br />

COURSE<br />

The American Association of Immunologists is sponsoring a course in<br />

advanced immunology to be held at Lindenwood College, St. Charles,<br />

Missouri, from June 16 to 23, 1985. The course will delve into recent<br />

advances in immunology, immunogenetics, and molecular and clinical<br />

immunology as they relate to immune regulation. Topics of discussion<br />

include: MHC and ¡mmunoglobin gene reorganization; T- and B-cell<br />

growth and differentiation; macrophage function; helper and suppressor<br />

T-cell clones and hybrids; T-cell receptors; MHC restriction; Ir gene<br />

control and regulatory T-cells; and effector mechanisms and immunolog<br />

ical analysis and manipulation in human disease states. The course is<br />

intended primarily for advanced graduate students, postdoctoral and<br />

clinical fellows, who want to expand their knowledge of modern immu<br />

nology. The registration fee is $225; room and board for the week at the<br />

CANCER AND <strong>THE</strong> ELDERLY<br />

The Twentieth Annual San Francisco Cancer Symposium, entitled<br />

"Cancer and the Elderly," will be held from March 1 and 2, 1985. The<br />

symposium is presented by the West Coast Cancer Foundation in<br />

association with the American Cancer Society, California Division, and<br />

St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center and is open to all members of<br />

The Fourteenth Annual Cancer Course sponsored by Harvard Medical<br />

DIET AND HUMAN CARCINOGENESIS<br />

The Third Annual Symposium of the European Organization for Co<br />

operation in Cancer Prevention Studies, entitled "Diet and Human Carcinogenesis,"<br />

will be held from June 19 to 21,1985, in Aarhus, Denmark.<br />

The aim of this symposium is to present to the scientific and general<br />

community a synopsis of the most recent knowledge regarding the<br />

epidemiological and biological aspects of diet as related to human<br />

carcinogenesis. A further aim will be to delineate the most promising<br />

areas for future innovative research. The following topics will be covered:<br />

causal and protective agents in human carcinogenesis, diet and breast<br />

cancer, diet and digestive tract cancers; diet, cancer, and other diseases;<br />

the role and feasibility of prospective and intervention studies on diet<br />

and cancer; and problems involved in dietary counseling. Lectures, panel<br />

discussions, seminars, and poster sessions are planned. Registered<br />
