Motor cortex –
body movements

The motor and sensory cortex, indicating the representation
of body regions. Note that those parts of the body
where the muscles have to carry out more differentiated
actions are represented by relatively large cortical areas.
For example, the area occupied by nerve cells supplying
the hand is exceptionally large. This is because a large
number of neurons is required for such delicate and
complex movements as violin-playing, writing, or performing
a delicate surgical operation.
