CAPTAINS GUIDE<br />

All matches will be played on the 14 indoor hard courts. There are two banks of<br />

seven courts.<br />

<strong>USTA</strong> Officials will be on site throughout the weekend. They are there to help<br />

with timing warm ups, tiebreakers, scoring, or any match play issues that may<br />

arise.<br />

Restrooms are located inside the tennis center, and there is a cafe which will be<br />

selling food, snacks, and drinks. Players should bring their own water, and families<br />

are encouraged to bring chairs. There will be designated areas to set up.<br />

Supervision is required for children at all times. No food or drinks (other than<br />

water) are allowed on the courts. Please help keep the facility clean by throwing<br />

away your trash.<br />

Practice courts will be available at St. Paul’s School (11152 Fall Road,<br />

Brooklandville, MD 21093) one mile from Green Spring Racquet Club.<br />

Other than approved coaches and captains, there is absolutely no standing inside<br />

the court area. There are observation windows throughout the tennis center<br />

where players and families and view the matches.<br />

Parking near the tennis center is free. There are multiple restaurant options<br />

within walking distance.

CAPTAINS GUIDE<br />

Eligibility<br />

* Players must have valid <strong>USTA</strong> memberships through August 31, <strong>2013</strong><br />

* Players must have played in at least three local league team matches<br />

* Players cannot advance with more than one team—they must choose one team to advance with<br />

* Players that have 350 or more <strong>MAS</strong> Ranking Points (through August 31, 2012) must play Advanced<br />

* If a team shows up without the minimum of six eligible players for 10U ADV, 12U, 14U, and 18U, at<br />

the start of the championship event, that team can <strong>com</strong>pete but all scores will be null and void. If<br />

team is short one player after the first match, then they have to default the singles line.<br />

* If a team shows up without the minimum of four eligible players for 10U INT at the start of the<br />

championship event, that team can <strong>com</strong>pete but all scores will be null and void.<br />

Substitutions<br />

* Teams must have had at least three eligible boys and three eligible girls on their roster to begin with<br />

* The substitution rule allows teams to add one boy and/or one girl to their team roster in order to meet<br />

the minimum requirement of 3 boys and 3 girls to be eligible to advance to Championship events<br />

* Teams can only substitute a boy and/or a girl if they fall below the required 3 girls and 3 boys<br />

* Teams can only substitute a boy and/or a girl if they are subbing for a qualified player (i.e. has played<br />

in at least three local league team matches)<br />

* A substitute must be from a team that <strong>com</strong>peted in the same league and season<br />

* A substitute must have the required number of local league matches (three)<br />

Doubling Up<br />

* Up to one boy and one girl can double up (play two individual matches) in a team match<br />

* The second match in which doubled up player <strong>com</strong>petes MUST be Mixed Doubles (i.e. a player<br />

playing twice may play in the Singles and Mixed Doubles matches, or the Doubles and Mixed<br />

Doubles matches)<br />

Coaching<br />

* Only allowed during changeover, 90 seconds, from the fence (outside court)<br />

* After two warnings, no more coaching allowed for the rest of championship<br />

* Make sure the kids don’t take a water break and then get coached<br />

* Coaches will be identified by wearing a wristband, which will be given at check-in<br />

* A coach MUST wear the wristband or you will not be allowed to coach<br />

Grievances<br />

* Teams can file a grievance within 30 minutes of conclusion of the match<br />

Advancement to National Championship<br />

* Champions of 14U INT, 14U ADV, 18U INT, and 18U ADV will advance to the National Championships<br />

Mid-Atlantic Championships Rule:<br />

* Teams that win the <strong>MAS</strong> Sectional Championship at the Intermediate level must either move up to the<br />

Advanced level as a team or disperse to form new teams at the same level for the next Championship<br />

year. The new team(s) may have no more than three (3) players (one boy and two girls or two boys and<br />

one girl) who were on the Sectional Championship roster. The 14 and Under Intermediate Sectional<br />

Championship team may also remain intact, if they move up to the 18 and Under Intermediate level if they<br />

meet all the requirements.
