Facility Information 

Green Spring Racquet Club is the site 

of the 2013 Sectional Championships

All matches will be played on the 14 indoor hard courts. There are two banks of 

seven courts. 

USTA Officials will be on site throughout the weekend. They are there to help 

with timing warm ups, tiebreakers, scoring, or any match play issues that may 

arise. 

Restrooms are located inside the tennis center, and there is a cafe which will be 

selling food, snacks, and drinks. Players should bring their own water, and families 

are encouraged to bring chairs. There will be designated areas to set up. 

Supervision is required for children at all times. No food or drinks (other than 

water) are allowed on the courts. Please help keep the facility clean by throwing 

away your trash. 

Practice courts will be available at St. Paul’s School (11152 Fall Road, 

Brooklandville, MD 21093) one mile from Green Spring Racquet Club. 

Other than approved coaches and captains, there is absolutely no standing inside 

the court area. There are observation windows throughout the tennis center 

where players and families and view the matches. 

Parking near the tennis center is free. There are multiple restaurant options 

within walking distance.

Rules & Regulations 


Eligibility 

* Players must have valid USTA memberships through August 31, 2013 

* Players must have played in at least three local league team matches 

* Players cannot advance with more than one team—they must choose one team to advance with 

* Players that have 350 or more MAS Ranking Points (through August 31, 2012) must play Advanced 

* If a team shows up without the minimum of six eligible players for 10U ADV, 12U, 14U, and 18U, at 

the start of the championship event, that team can compete but all scores will be null and void. If 

team is short one player after the first match, then they have to default the singles line. 

* If a team shows up without the minimum of four eligible players for 10U INT at the start of the 

championship event, that team can compete but all scores will be null and void. 

Substitutions 

* Teams must have had at least three eligible boys and three eligible girls on their roster to begin with 

* The substitution rule allows teams to add one boy and/or one girl to their team roster in order to meet 

the minimum requirement of 3 boys and 3 girls to be eligible to advance to Championship events 

* Teams can only substitute a boy and/or a girl if they fall below the required 3 girls and 3 boys 

* Teams can only substitute a boy and/or a girl if they are subbing for a qualified player (i.e. has played 

in at least three local league team matches) 

* A substitute must be from a team that competed in the same league and season 

* A substitute must have the required number of local league matches (three) 

Doubling Up 

* Up to one boy and one girl can double up (play two individual matches) in a team match 

* The second match in which doubled up player competes MUST be Mixed Doubles (i.e. a player 

playing twice may play in the Singles and Mixed Doubles matches, or the Doubles and Mixed 

Doubles matches) 

Coaching 

* Only allowed during changeover, 90 seconds, from the fence (outside court) 

* After two warnings, no more coaching allowed for the rest of championship 

* Make sure the kids don’t take a water break and then get coached 

* Coaches will be identified by wearing a wristband, which will be given at check-in 

* A coach MUST wear the wristband or you will not be allowed to coach 

Grievances 

* Teams can file a grievance within 30 minutes of conclusion of the match 

Advancement to National Championship 

* Champions of 14U INT, 14U ADV, 18U INT, and 18U ADV will advance to the National Championships 

Mid-Atlantic Championships Rule: 

* Teams that win the MAS Sectional Championship at the Intermediate level must either move up to the 

Advanced level as a team or disperse to form new teams at the same level for the next Championship 

year. The new team(s) may have no more than three (3) players (one boy and two girls or two boys and 

one girl) who were on the Sectional Championship roster. The 14 and Under Intermediate Sectional 

Championship team may also remain intact, if they move up to the 18 and Under Intermediate level if they 

meet all the requirements.

Championships is a sanctioned tournament, we have to conform to tournament rules.
