1 Coil heat exchangers 8
Coil heat exchangers
The various models of coil heat exchangers are particularly
suitable for heat exchange of high-viscosity fluids contaminated
with suspended particles. BEHNCKE GmbH is a
specialist in the manufacture of smaller diameters and can
meet a wide range of customer requirements in this field.
Stainless-steel coils
The manufacture of our stainless-steel heat exchanger
systems means that BEHNCKE has become a specialist in the
manufacture of coils with very thin walls and small winding
diameters. Coils of this type can only be manufactured with
specialised tools using specialised winding technology. This
means that BEHNCKE can wind the coils on existing tools
or customers can supply their own patent-protected tools for
use by BEHNCKE. AISI 316Ti (V4A 1.4571) stainless-steel or
titanium tubes are used.
Stainless-steel coaxial heat exchangers (HWT)
Stainless-steel coaxial heat exchangers (AISI 316Ti) are the
best solution for the food and beverage industry, because the
special tube-in-tube design (without steps) leaves nowhere for
the formation of bacteria colonies. The factory has a computer
program for designing heat exchangers for a wide range of
applications. After entering the exchanger-relevant quantities
for temperature, pressure drop, flow velocity, material values
etc., the heat exchanger can be designed precisely for the
requirements.
3
Stainless-steel exchanger batteries (ETB)
Stainless-steel exchanger batteries are used on open and
closed housings for heating and cooling fluids. They can
be connected to heating and cooling systems (suitable for
refrigerants).
• The special design makes them suitable for drinking water
applications (no welding seams in the areas in contact with
water).
• No corrosion, because stainless steel (AISI 316Ti) can be
used with water to max. 600 mg/l chloride content.
• Working pressure 20 bar
Plate heat exchangers 1
Plate heat exchangers
Plate heat exchangers are high-output heat exchangers with a
design that gives them a very large heat transmission area. They
are particularly suited for environments with non-contaminated
media and are used in a wide range of industrial areas.
Screw-retained plate heat exchanger
Most plates are available in different shapes and sizes
that correspond to the different velocities and therefore
correspond to different heat exchange outputs. Frames, plates
and seals are also available in different materials to meet the
requirements of industry for different fluids and operating
conditions (PN, temperatures etc.).
The plates are available in AISI 304, AISI 316 and titanium,
the maximum working pressures for these plates are PN10 for
titanium and PN16 for AISI 304 and AISI 316.
Uses for screw-retained plate heat exchangers
• Production of service water (hotels, hospitals, sporting
complexes, housing complexes, community centres)
• Heating and district heat with various energy sources
• Swimming pools, including sea water (titanium plates)
• Exchange and recovery of heat in industrial plants
• Heating and service water production with solar cells
• Pasteurisation of beverages (milk, wine, beer etc.)
• Air-conditioning systems, heat pumps (water etc.)
• Heating with radiators
• Low-pressure steam: heating and service water production
Plate heat exchangers
Turbulator plate heat exchangers
Screw-retained heat exchangers with turbulators are fitted
with specially designed exchanger plates that are particularly
flexible. They consist of smooth, cut
metal plates with a U-bend at the outer
edge for the seals. The great advantage
of the seals is that they are not glued and
as a result can be replaced very easily.
Mesh turbulators, the most important
elements of the plates, are installed an
the inside end seals. They are designed
to support the plate package and also
to ensure that the fluids flow through
turbulently even at low velocity (and
low volume) to ensure high exchange
coefficients.
1
2
3
Screw-retained plate heat exchangers
can be used safely in an extremely large
pressure-temperature range (up to 40
bar and 150 °C).
The user costs of the heat exchanger are
low, because maintenance is reduced to
a minimum and the problem of extended
downtime is eliminated.
2 Turbulator plate heat exchanger
Soldered plate heat exchangers
Stamped stainless-steel plates are soldered with 99.9% copper
solder in a special process. The optimum design of the flow
ducts on the primary and secondary side ensures an ideal
thermodynamic construction. The result is efficient and
compact units with an excellent price-performance ratio.
Heat insulation
Standard heat insulation is black EPP as two robust half-shells
with a self-locking connection and very simple to install.
Special models are also available with Velcro fastening.
use of the energy resources of our environment with this
innovative heat recovery technology.
1
2
The advantages of the RWT flue-gas heat exchanger
• Reduction of energy costs for oil, gas and fossil fuels.
• Environmentally compatible and economical with
resources, because less primary energy is required for
downstream processes.
• Increase of the overall efficiency of systems.
• Low material requirements
• Heat heat transfer coefficients because of the construction
and materials
• Easy to clean
a double-walled heating and refrigeration conduction system.
Compared to traditional systems like semi-spiral tubes,
double-wall, dimple jacket and tube-in-tube, Thermplate®
offers particularly high efficiency.
Thermplate® is available in two different models:
Expanded on one side: for indirect heating and/or cooling of
products (thin on thick plate, laser-welded).
Note on the double wall in the BEHNCKE RWT model 2
The efficiency is extremely important for heat conduction. For
the best possible performance, BEHNCKE uses Thermplate®,
Expanded on both sides: for direct heating and/or cooling
of a specific medium. (thin on thin plate, laser-welded, often
used for plates in heat exchangers)

GOSLAR municipal filter housings
Filtering technology is the most important component in the treatment of water. It is used
for physical-mechanical cleaning of water in swimming pools. Unhygienic, organic and
inorganic contamination of all types is caught on the filter surface and in the filter bed.
Municipal filter technology with top quality standards
Special multi-layer filtration is used to improve filtering performance and filtering efficiency
even more. Activated charcoal absorption filters make it possible to absorb chloramines (bonded
chlorine) and trihalogen methane (ancillary chlorine reaction products) from the swimmingpool
water. BEHNCKE‘s optimised filter operating technology not only reduces the energy and
water consumption, but the consumption of chemicals as well. And in addition to the economic
aspects relating to reduced operating costs, at the same time it also makes an important ecological
contribution, i.e. it is an efficient investment in our future.
GOSLAR - single and multi-layer filter housings and
manual filter systems – according to DIN 19605/19643
Plastic housings are made from glass-fibre reinforced polyester
resin (completely atoxic and corrosion-resistant). With internal
sealing, DN 220 service access at top and internal untreated
water piping reinforced with support bearings. The GOSLAR
filter has an integrated nozzle base and a large 280 x 450 mm
side service access and 150 x 50 mm sight glass. The filter is
used for general process water treatment and can be used for
a wide range of applications.
The filter can be supplied with ozone-resistant sealing on
2 Filter material 20
AFM filter material (Active Filter Material)
AFM is a modern filter medium that replaces the filter sand in pressure and gravity
sand filters. In comparison to even high-quality filter sand, AFM has significantly
better application properties. Changing over from sand to AFM leads to a
considerable improvement in the performance of your filtration system. AFM is
manufactured by Dryden Aqua from conditioned glass and also makes a valuable
contribution to environmental sustainability.
You should opt for AFM - because pure water cannot just
be left to chance.
In all applications that Dryden Aqua has tested over a period
of 5 years, AFM proved to be the superior filter medium in
comparison even with high-quality sand.
Crystal clear water, less disinfectant and a
long period of use.
AFM is a complete replacement for sand in all pressure and
gravity sand filters. AFM is largely self-cleaning and can be
rinsed with about 50% less water. AFM can be used for a
longer period than conventional sand, e.g. AFM can be used
for nearly five years for sewage treatment. In comparison to
sand of similar quality, AFM removes significantly smaller
particles.
Anthracite filter material
Anthracite is a purely natural product. There are two different
types of anthracite. Hydroanthracite N is for private use and
hydroanthracite H for municipal use.
DIN 19643 lists the filter material anthracite for multi-layer
filtration. Hydroanthracite H has the property of reducing
bonded chlorine and THM (trihalogenmethane), similar to
activated charcoal. In contrast, hydroanthracite N does not
have this property. The action of hydroanthracite N is similar
to that of pure sand filtration.
Activated charcoal is used for special applications, such as
ozone absorption filters.
1
2
A wide range of applications:
• Suitable for pressure and gravity sand filters
• Drinking water treatment
• Swimming pools
• Tertiary sewage treatment
• Industrial waste water
• Grey water recycling
• Boiler feed water
• Water features
• River, pond and lake water treatment
• Aquaculture, public aquariums
• Cooling towers
3
The decisive advantages of AFM:
• Crystal-clear water
• No filter contamination
• Reduced requirements for disinfectants
1 AFM requires little energy and is not resource-intensive because it is
largely self-cleaning
2 Hydroanthracite H filter material for municipal filter housings
3 AFM becomes contaminated 1 million times less than quartz sand
and thus sustainably prevents the formation of biofilm. Consequently,
there is significantly less use of disinfectants
21
Filter valves 2
Besgo rod valves
Sand filters are used to obtain pure water in water treatment and
swimming-pool applications. Sand filters must be backwashed regularly.
The automatic Besgo backwash valve with hydraulic drive for water or air is
the answer.
Maximum working safety
The automatic backwash opens hydraulically or pneumatically
and closes by spring pressure. In case of power failure, the
Besgo valve switches automatically back to FILTER. The
system cannot accidentally drain itself. Existing systems can
also be retrofitted with Besgo valves to improve and optimise
them.
5-way switch panel with electric actuator motor (230 V)
non-glued, fully sealing maintenance-free valves for standard
water (fresh water), made by Ebro.
The Besgo valve allows two separate water circuits with one
water treatment plant (filtering, purification, measurement
and control).
The body of the valve is PVC-U, the internal parts are V4A
stainless steel and the seals are Viton/Teflon.
5-way pneumatic switch panel
non-glued, double-acting valves with control valve for standard
water (fresh water), made by Ebro. Single-acting, closed
without power on request. Switch box for pneumatic swivel
drives IP 65 with terminal bar, 2 microswitches (end switch)
resistant to sea water and ozone on request. Switch panel with
electric actuator motor or with pneumatic drive.
Automatic backwash valve
• Low pressure drop for high backwash speed, which is
particularly important for a virtually unpressurised
backwash.
• Adjustable connections (can be rotated 90° to eliminate
tension in the pipe installation)
• It is not necessary to switch off the filter pump when
switching - switch over without switching off
• Sizes DN 40 to DN 125
• Can be attached to any standard filter
• Noiseless
• No pressure impact
• Closed in 10 s at 3 bar/closed in 5 sat 3 bar with air
5-way switch panels
From a specific housing size the switch panels are used as
valves, because, for example, 6-way valves are only available
up to a size of 3”. BEHNCKE can manufacture significantly
larger switch panels and then automate them with electric or
pneumatic valves
The 5-way switch panel can also be supplied with a larger
pure water connection. Switch pads resistant to sea water and
ozone on request
3 UV systems 22
UV disinfection with UV-matic (AISI 316)
Physical UV disinfection keeps water virtually free from environmentally damaging
chemicals, because they only require minimal depot disinfection. The UV-C lamps emit
short-wave ultraviolet radiation (253.7 Nm), which neutralise bacteria, viruses and other
organisms and suppresses their reproduction. This is effective even if the organisms have
developed resistance to other methods of disinfection.
Treatment of fresh water and corrosive saline water
Polyethylene (HD) for treatment of corrosive saline water
with and without intensity monitoring and recording of UV
radiation depending on the UV transmission (water quality)
and the deposits on the quartz safety tubes of the radiator
emission.
1
2
Principle of UV radiation of liquid media
UV radiation of liquid media is a purely physical process.
The sun radiates a light that is not perceptible to the human
eye: ultraviolet rays. This natural phenomenon is artificially
reproduced in the radiation chambers of various BEHNCKE
products by high-power lamps that generate UV-C radiation.
Micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses, yeasts etc. exposed
to UV-C radiation are reduced to inactivity in seconds. At 245
nanometres the UV-C rays penetrate the centre of the DNA
of the micro-organisms and affect their metabolism. This
deactivates the micro-organisms (including Legionella and
Cryptosporidium) and prevents them from reproducing.
3
Contact water meter dosing systems
In addition to dosing stations with housing, BEHNCKE also
offers contact water meter dosing systems. They are used for
proportional dosing, e.g. adding phosphate in drinking water
systems.
When the water flow varies the feed must be recorded. This is
usually done with a contact water meter installed in the infeed
flow. Contact water meters send a fixed number of pulses per
